2020-21 NFL news and notes
« on: August 24, 2020, 04:00:16 PM »
Normally, I'd start this page at the preseason, but there won't be one this year.  (Stupid pandemic!)  Still, I wanted to get this open prior to the start of the regular season, so let's use this space to discuss the National Football League.  Remember, stay respectful to everybody.
Just give me a reason
Just a little bit’s enough
Just a second, we’re not broken, just bent
And we can learn to love again
It’s in the stars
It’s been written in the scars on our hearts
That we’re not broken, just bent
And we can learn to love again
Just give me a reason
Just a little bit’s enough
Just a second we’re not broken, just bent
And we can learn to love again
It’s in the stars
It’s written in the scars on our hearts
That we’re not broken, just bent
And we can learn to love again

After an offseason of uncertainty and waiting, the NFL finally kicks off tonight in Kansas City, Mo.  Let's hope they can get the season in with everybody staying healthy.  Your Opening Night schedule:

Houston Texans at Kansas City Chiefs tonight at 8:20 p.m.
Just give me a reason
Just a little bit’s enough
Just a second, we’re not broken, just bent

When I die, I want members of the Lions to be my pallbearers so they can let me down one last time.

What a thriller today in Arlington!  The Cowboys stunned the Falcons by scoring 16 points in the final 5:02 to win, 40-39.  The Cowboys recovered an onside kick before kicking the winning field goal as time expired.

Ever since the schedule was announced, every NFL fan has had this date saved.  It's an MVP Monday Night as reigning Super Bowl MVP Patrick Mahomes and the Chiefs will face reigning NFL MVP Lamar Jackson and the Ravens on Monday Night Football.  Updates to come.

The Chiefs beat the Ravens, 34-20.

This is the nightmare scenario.  According to sources, the Titans closed their team facilities after multiple players tested positive for COVID-19.  The Vikings also shut down their facilities.

Man, I'm hoping he starts feeling better soon.  According to Adam Schefter and Field Yates, Patriots quarterback Cam Newton tested positive for COVID-19 and is out for Sunday's game against the Chiefs in Kansas City, Mo.

UPDATE:  Here we go again.  Sunday's Patriots vs. Chiefs game will be rescheduled for Monday or Tuesday after positive COVID-19 tests on both teams.

Stuff like this is why I wish they wouldn't have even tried to have NFL season this year. They are doing fuck all about the pandemic and as per usual, more worried about their money than player safety. I think they'll end up cancelling an entire week of games at one point. It's not set up anything like the bubble that the NBA prepared.

Sadly, this wasn't the first coaching casualty of 2020 that I was hoping for.  According to Adam Schefter and Dan Graziano, the Texans fired head coach and general manager Bill O'Brien after an 0-4 start to the season.

Perhaps tonight is the night when fortunes change.  The 0-3 Falcons are playing the 3-0 Packers on Monday Night Football.  The Packers are averaging 40.7 PPG, the most in the NFL.  The Falcons’ Matt Ryan is 5-4 against the Packers’ Aaron Rodgers.  Updates to come.

The Packers beat the Falcons, 30-16.

Well, this is a fine mess.  According to Adam Schefter and KUSA, the NFL made several schedule changes due to COVID-19.  The Broncos vs. Patriots game was moved to Monday night in Foxborough, Mass.  The Bills vs. Titans game was changed to 6 p.m. on Tuesday in Nashville, Tenn.  The Chiefs vs. Bills game in Week 6 was moved to Oct. 18 in Orchard Park, N.Y.

I saw it happen live and it was not pretty.  According to Adam Schefter and Chris Mortensen, the Cowboys' Dak Prescott will undergo ankle surgery tonight.  Updates to come.

The Cowboys beat the Giants, 37-34.  (What a thriller today in Arlington!)
