Title: NFL 2019-20
Post by: InThe313 on August 24, 2019, 10:00:55 PM
We open this thread with a bombshell of a note.  "Dearest Mother, the war is over and I am coming home."  According to Adam Schefter, Andrew Luck has informed the Colts that he is retiring from the NFL.  Updates to come.

The Colts lost to the Bears, 27-17.

Saw this and felt the need to share it -

Physical toll on Andrew Luck through 6 NFL seasons:
» Torn cartilage in 2 ribs
» partially torn abdomen
» a lacerated kidney that left him peeing blood
» at least 1 concussion
» a torn labrum in his throwing shoulder
» and this mysterious calf/ankle issue that led to this

The Colts completely mismanaged him and let him get destroyed out there.

Good news, everyone!  The NFL is officially back tonight.  The bad news is that because of the two teams playing, I'm hoping for a tie.  Your Opening Night schedule:

Chicago Bears at Green Bay Packers tonight at 8:20 p.m.

I hope this incident serves as a wake-up call, but you never really know.  Raiders head coach Jon Gruden said wide receiver Antonio Brown will play on Monday against the Broncos in Oakland, Calif.

Over and over again AB keeps getting rewarded for acting like a jackass.  He got a massive contract after not playing in his final game as a Steeler and forcing his way out.  He got an endorsement deal out of the helmet drama.  And now he is not going to get suspended for yelling and threatening to punch the GM.

So much for the second opportunity.  The Raiders released wide receiver Antonio Brown.

He has since lost his helmet endorsement.

That really is unfortunate how callus the Patriots are being in regard to the underlying concern here. The victim has or is set to speak to NFL directors and now the Patriots are forced to take this more seriously but this is civil not criminal allegation so only so much can be investigated and according to NFLPA agreements Brown might skate. Marquise Brown of the Ravens has been listed in the lawsuit as being in the house at the time of the allegedly incident but is not named in the suit as having been directly involved. Stay tuned and I hope I posted in the proper place on my first post.

Are you ready for some football?  The 0-1 Browns are playing the 0-1 Jets on Monday Night Football.  The Browns’ Odell Beckham Jr. is making his return to MetLife Stadium and the team hasn’t won on MNF since 2008.  Updates to come.

The Browns beat the Jets, 23-3.

Honestly, I'm starting to worry if we're looking at symptoms of CTE.  Wide receiver Antonio Brown unleashed a tirade on Twitter, calling out ex-teammate and Steelers quarterback Ben Roethlisberger and Patriots principle owner Robert Kraft and said he's done playing in the NFL.  Updates to come.

The Patriots beat the Jets, 30-14.
The Steelers lost to the 49ers, 24-20.

I am 95% sure the Dolphins botched that 2-point conversion against Washington on purpose.  Not saying Drake dropped that ball on purpose, but they did pick a horrible play that had almost no chance of being successful.

Time to reignite a rivalry.  The Patriots are playing the Jets on Monday Night Football.  The Patriots are seeking their first 7-0 start since 2015 and Tom Brady has 22 road primetime wins.  Updates to come.

The Patriots beat the Jets, 33-0.

Rumors are swirling that Tom Brady is leaving NE after this year. I think he is considering retirement given his age and if the Pats do win it all this year. They made a serious move to get Sanu which seems like one of the moves you make when you know your time is short.

Somebody has to win this game, right?  The Dolphins are playing the Steelers on Monday Night Football.  The Steelers have won a record 17 straight MNF home games.  The Dolphins’ Ryan Fitzpatrick is 0-6 in his career against the Steelers.  Updates to come.

I didn't see this twist coming.  According to Adam Schefter and Josina Anderson, Browns defensive end Myles Garrett alleged that Steelers quarterback Mason Rudolph called him a racial slur just prior to the brawl.  Rudolph denied it.

UPDATE:  So much for the "He started it" argument.  Garrett's indefinite suspension was upheld and Steelers center Maurkice Pouncey's suspension was reduced from three games to two.

History is on the line.  The 6-7 Colts are playing the 10-3 Saints on Monday Night Football.  The Saints’ Drew Brees needs three passing touchdowns to pass Peyton Manning.  The Colts will be eliminated with a loss.  Updates to come.

UPDATE:  That is one for the record books.  Brees threw his 540th touchdown to pass Manning for No. 1 on the all-time passing touchdown list and celebrated with his teammates and blew kisses to his family afterwards.

The Saints beat the Colts, 34-7.

Welcome to the postseason.  The 10-6 Bills are playing the 10-6 Texans in the AFC Wild Card game.  The Texans have a 69 percent chance to win according to the Football Power Index.  The Bills' last playoff win came in 1995.  Updates to come.

UPDATE:  We couldn't get this game decided in 60 minutes so now we need bonus football.  The Bills and Texans are heading to overtime with the game tied at 19 in a wild card game.

The Texans beat the Bills, 22-19, in overtime.  (What a thriller today in Houston!)

UPDATE 2:  You have to wonder if this is the last ride for TB12.  The Titans ended the Patriots' season at Gillette Stadium with a 20-13 win.  The Titans' Derrick Henry had 182 rushing yards and a touchdown and they will play the Ravens on Jan. 11 in Baltimore.  The Patriots suffered their first home playoff loss since 2012.  Because of this game, the Texans will play the Chiefs on Jan. 12 in Kansas City, Mo.

It's about time.  The Chiefs moved on to play in the Super Bowl on Feb. 2 in Miami Gardens, Fla., after beating the Titans, 35-24.  This is the Chiefs' first Super Bowl appearance since the 1969 season and Patrick Mahomes had 294 passing yards and four total touchdowns.  The Titans' Derrick Henry had 69 rushing yards and a touchdown.

UPDATE:  And so it is set.  Raheem Mostert powered the 49ers to the Super Bowl with a 37-20 win over the Packers with 220 rushing yards and four touchdowns.  The 49ers' Jimmy Garoppolo was 6-of-8 for 77 passing yards.  The Packers' Aaron Rodgers is 0-3 against the 49ers in the playoffs.

As a lifelong Ohioan, I remember going to relatives' soccer (lifelong American) games, and both seeing & hearing how excited folks were to know he'd be playing for the local team...While simultaneously wondering if they remained aware he'd be playing for the local team.
