MLB 2021
« on: February 28, 2021, 02:14:21 PM »
It's already time for the preseason.  The first pitches of the exhibition season will come in Port Charlotte, Fla.; Fort Myers, Fla.; West Palm Beach, Fla.; Lakeland, Fla.; Sarasota, Fla.; Tampa, Fla.; and Jupiter, Fla.  This will be your home location for all news and notes in MLB this year and let's just hope we have a full season this year.  Remember, be respectful to others here.
Just give me a reason
Just a little bit’s enough
Just a second, we’re not broken, just bent
And we can learn to love again
It’s in the stars
It’s been written in the scars on our hearts
That we’re not broken, just bent
And we can learn to love again
Just give me a reason
Just a little bit’s enough
Just a second we’re not broken, just bent
And we can learn to love again
It’s in the stars
It’s written in the scars on our hearts
That we’re not broken, just bent
And we can learn to love again

On the night before Opening Day, we got a bombshell of a story.  According to Jeff Passan, shortstop Francisco Lindor agreed to a 10-year, $341 million deal with the Mets.  It is the third-largest contract in MLB history and the largest for a shortstop.

I love this time of the year!  Opening Day is here!  First up, the Blue Jays are playing the Yankees.  Gerrit Cole is taking the mound for the Yankees.  There will be a series of updates coming throughout the day.  Updates to come.

The Blue Jays beat the Yankees, 3-2, in 10 innings.
The Phillies beat the Braves, 3-2, in 10 innings.  (What a thriller today in Philadelphia!)
The Rockies beat the Dodgers, 8-5.
The Astros beat the Athletics, 8-1.

We're only two days into the season and we already have controversy.  Major League Baseball is moving the 2021 All-Star Game, scheduled for July 13, out of Atlanta over the Georgia voting law.

All 30 teams have now twirled a no-no.  The Padres' Joe Musgrove threw the first no-hitter in the Padres' 53-season history in a 3-0 win against the Rangers.

While perfection didn’t come tonight, we still saw an excellent performance.  Carlos Rodón tossed a no-hitter for the White Sox in an 8-0 win against the Indians.  He allowed his first baserunner on a hit by pitch with one out in the ninth.

This is a lot of no-nos to start the year.  The Orioles' John Means threw a no-hitter in a 6-0 win against the Mariners for the franchise's first individual no-hitter since current Orioles broadcaster Jim Palmer in 1969.

I have to imagine that The Squad Leader is a happy man.  The Reds’ Wade Miley threw a no-hitter in a 3-0 win against the Indians.  This is the second season in MLB history to have four no-hitters before the end of May.

This is going to make one of baseball's most passionate fanbases sick.  According to Jeff Passan, the Athletics are going to start looking at the possibility of relocation with the support of Major League Baseball.  Updates to come.

The Athletics beat the Red Sox, 3-2.

Happy birthday to me!  The Tigers’ Spencer Turnbull threw his first career no-hitter in a 5-0 win over the Mariners.  This is the Tigers’ first no-hitter since current Astro Justin Verlander in 2011.  (On a related note, the Astros lost to the Athletics, 6-5.  What a thriller tonight in Oakland!)

Two days, two no-nos!  The Yankees' Corey Kluber threw a no-hitter in a 2-0 win against the Rangers.  It was the eighth time in MLB history that no-hitters were thrown one or fewer days apart.

Wow, this crackdown on foreign substances is already starting to get teams riled up.  Tempers boiled over in Philadelphia after the Nationals’ Max Scherzer stared down the Phillies bench after his third substance check of the game and Phillies manager Joe Girardi charged out of the dugout toward Scherzer.  The Nationals beat the Phillies, 3-2.

Even with a crackdown on foreign substances, there's no stopping the pitchers this year.  Zach Davies and three Cubs relievers combined to no-hit the Dodgers in a 4-0 win.  That was Major League Baseball's seventh no-hitter of the season, the most before July in history.

Seeing this play made me sick.  Braves All-Star Ronald Acuña Jr. suffered a torn ACL on Saturday in a 6-5 win against the Marlins and will miss the rest of the season.
