One of the worst parts of this tragedy is the loved one left behind.  Vanessa Bryant, the wife of Kobe Bryant, made her first public statements on Instagram, thanking the fans for "support and love during this horrific time."

It is time to let the healing begin.  The Lakers are paying tribute to the life and legacy of Kobe Bryant in a pregame ceremony at Staples Center in Los Angeles.  Updates to come.

UPDATE:  It was a fitting good-bye.  The Lakers' LeBron James closed the pregame tribute to Bryant and said Friday night is a celebration of the life and legacy of Bryant, adding, "Mamba out... but not forgotten."

The Lakers lost to the Trail Blazers, 127-119.

Here's the blockbuster we've been waiting to see.  According to Adrian Wojnarowski, the Warriors traded shooting guard D'Angelo Russell to the Timberwolves for a package that includes shooting guard Andrew Wiggins and a 2021 protected first-round pick.

My, how the turns have tabled this season.  The Lakers will play the Warriors tonight at 8:30 p.m.  Updates to come.

UPDATE:  It's go-time!  The 38-12 Lakers are playing the 12-40 Warriors.  The Lakers are off to their best 50-game start since 2009-10 and lead the NBA in dunks and blocks per game.

The Lakers beat the Warriors, 125-120.

This has that big game feel to it, doesn't it?  The 76ers will play the Bucks tonight at 8:30 p.m.  Updates to come.

The Bucks beat the 76ers, 119-98.

If you haven't seen the memorial to Kobe Bryant and Gianna Bryant at Staples Center on Monday, look it up.  You'll shed plenty of tears.  And kudos to Vanessa Bryant for being able to speak in such a public forum while dealing with this unfathomable tragedy.  She's a strong woman.

Despite these teams going in opposite directions, this feels like a must-watch game.  The 76ers will play the Warriors tonight at 8:30 p.m.  Updates to come.

The Warriors beat the 76ers, 118-114.

It's for the well-being of the people, so I get that.  According to Adrian Wojnarowski, the Warriors are planning to play their home games without fans for the foreseeable future amid the coronavirus outbreak.

UPDATE:  Well, now things have turned from bad to worse.  The NBA suspended the regular season and will use the hiatus to determine its next steps.

UPDATE 2:  This just makes it feel more real.  According to reports, the Jazz’s Rudy Gobert tested positive for the coronavirus, which led to the Jazz vs. Thunder game being postponed.

UPDATE 3:  This is the way the NBA season potentially ends, not with a bang, but with a whimper.  The Pelicans vs. Kings game was postponed.

Things have gotten worse.  According to Adrian Wojnarowski, Jazz shooting guard Donovan Mitchell tested positive for the coronavirus.  Mitchell's teammates said center Rudy Gobert had been careless in the locker room.

This is a clear reminder to stay safe and smart out there.  According to The Athletic, small forward Kevin Durant is among four Nets players to test positive for the coronavirus.

On the bright side, this does clear the way for the NBA to resume the season with a full schedule.  Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe reached an agreement with IOC President Thomas Bach to postpone the Olympics for about a year.

UPDATE:  So there are more things to know.  The IOC officially postponed the 2020 Games.  They will be held "not later than summer 2021".  The 2020 Tokyo Olympics name remains.  The Olympic flame will stay in Fukushima, Japan.

This may be the greatest class ever.  Kobe Bryant, Spurs assistant coach Tim Duncan, Kevin Garnett and Indiana Fever general manager Tamika Catchings are among the Basketball Hall of Fame Class of 2020.  Congratulations to an incredible group of individuals.

Let's see how things go.  According to Adam Schefter and Adrian Wojnarowski, President Donald Trump spoke with 12 sports commissioners and hoped to have fans back in stadiums by August and September, adding that the NFL should start on time.  NBA commissioner Adam Silver said the leagues were the first to shut down and that they would love to lead the way in starting the economy once there was an "all clear" from public health officials.
