We've long needed a thread here for celebs that have passed. I almost made one months ago but decided not to, so here is to make up for being late on it.

Peter Green
1946-2020
(https://i.imgur.com/2YwYToG.jpg)
Legendary Blues guitar player from Britain and founder of the band Fleetwood Mac. Peter Green influenced countless guitar players across the globe such as Gary Moore, Carlos Santana, Billy Gibbons and Rory Gallaghar. His influence stretched out from afar with his songs covered and made famous by others. Specifically the song 'Black Magic Woman' has been mistaken as a Santana song for years. Judas Priest covered 'The Green Manalishi' and his song 'Oh Well' has been covered by many. There are many great songs in the original Fleetwood Mac catalog worth checking out for Blues Rock fans.
Green's death hits me on a personal level as he was one of my major three guitar heroes and the last one still alive. Last year I wrote Old Flame Blues (https://celebritystorysite.com/index.php?topic=1661.0), a story centered around some of Green's music and the song 'Jumping At Shadows' that summed up how I felt mentally at the time.
RIP

Sad to hear. UFO was an influential band with early Metal, my dad was a big fan. I have an original vinyl copy of their album Obsession.

Briliant. I love vinyl, being of a certain age. I have about 1000 record albums and 500 12 inch singles. You still can't beat the warmth of a record compared with a CD or MP whatever it is. Although 5.1 surround soumd is something else. Plus you can't beat a 12 inch gatefold record sleeve in your hands.

I used to have a lot more vinyls until I was forced to part with my Jazz collection a few years back. I still have a box of old rock and metal vinyls, but my collection has severely decreased. I'm a bit of a digital maniac. FLAC format is the best I've ever heard, completely matches the HDCDs when those were a thing.
The gatefolds to vinyls are truly special. I've been debating about buying King Crimson's debut album just to have that beautiful gatefold art with the lyrics. I already own it on CD (as an HDCD remastering) but I surely wouldn't mind seeing that album cover in a larger display.

The Bay City Rollers have said they are "deeply saddened" by the death of ex-member Ian Mitchell at the age of 62.
"Rest In Peace, Ian," the Scottish pop band wrote as they announced his death on their Instagram page.
Mitchell joined the group in 1976 at the age of 17, replacing founding member and bassist Alan Longmuir.
But he quit the band after nine months to return his native Northern Ireland, where he performed with old school friends as the group Rosetta Stone.
While Mitchell was with the Rollers, they released the 1976 album Dedication and a cover version of Dusty Springfield's I Only Want to Be With You.
But he found tensions within the band hard to cope with and departed that December, to be replaced by guitarist Pat McGlynn.

Legendary Van Halen guitarist Eddie Van Halen has died at the age of 65. His death follows a long battle with cancer, with the news confirmed in a statement from his son, Wolfgang.
Born in Amsterdam in 1955, Eddie and his drummer brother Alex moved to Pasadena, California, with their parents in the early 60s. They formed the band that would transform into Van Halen in 1972, with the lineup completed in 1974 by vocalist David Lee Roth and bassist Michael Anthony.
Van Halen released their self-titled debut album in 1978. The album would revolutionise rock music, redefining what it meant to be a guitarist – Eddie's innovative two-handed ‘tapping’ technique made him the most influential guitarist since Jimi Hendrix – and providing a template for thousands of musicians to follow.

News of the sad death of Ken Hensley at 75. As the keyboard player of British group Uriah Heep, he played a big part in their success. Not as familiar as Black Sabbath, Judas Priest or Jethro Tull, they were not too far behind.
x
Born Kenneth William David Hensley on August 24, 1945, the keyboard player first attracted the national spotlight as a member of The Gods, who featured future Rolling Stones guitarist Mick Taylor, and recorded two albums, 1968’s Genesis and 1969’s To Samuel A Son, for Columbia Records. The group also released the album Orgasm under the pseudonym Head Machine.
Hensley wrote or co-wrote the majority of Uriah Heep's songs until his departure from the band in 1980, including the hit singles Easy Livin’, Stealin’, Lady In Black and Free Me.
He wrote the band’s biggest hit, Easy Livin’ from 1972’s Demons And Wizards album, in just 15 minutes. Though it failed to chart in the UK, the song, a tongue-in-cheek reflection upon outsider perceptions of the band’s lifestyle, became a top 20 hit across mainland Europe, and peaked on the Billboard Hot 100 at number 39. A huge radio hit in America, it pushed the Demons and Wizards album to number 23 on the Billboard 200 album chart.

Sad news just in. ZZ Top's Dusty Hill has died, aged 72.
"You will be missed greatly, amigo," say the band as they pay tribute to their bassist of 50 years
"We are saddened by the news today that our Compadre, Dusty Hill, has passed away in his sleep at home in Houston, Texas," said the band's surviving members, Billy Gibbons and Frank Beard.
"We, along with legions of ZZ Top fans around the world, will miss your steadfast presence, your good nature and enduring commitment to providing that monumental bottom to the ‘Top'. We will forever be connected to that 'Blues Shuffle in C.'”
No cause of death was revealed in the band's statement. The band played their first performances without Hill in more than 50 years earlier this month, claiming that Hill had a hip problem.
I was lucky enough to see them live five times over the years. Their sound never got old. RIP Dusty.

Only Fools and Horses. Got to be the best comedy ever. So many great characters.
-
Only Fools is certainly amongst the greatest Sitcoms, just turned 40 as well, if you can believe it.
Fawlty Towers may be the best IMO. still makes me laugh today, even if some jokes are considered 'Woke' in the current climate.
I know I've discussed this subject before, and it's always a matter for debate.

Yes, he passed away a few years ago, both quite young. He was on Swap Shop. I think. ITV had Tiswas v Swap Shop on BBC. What Saturday morning TV we had back in the 1970's.

William Hurt, an acclaimed actor best known for his Oscar-winning performance in 1985’s “Kiss of the Spider Woman” and his work in “The Big Chill” and “Body Heat,” died Sunday of natural causes. He was 71 years old.
Hurt was nominated for four Oscars over the course of his long career, scoring two best actor nominations for “Broadcast News” and “Children of a Lesser God” and a supporting actor nod for less than 10 minutes of screen time in “A History of Violence.” He was one of the most heralded performers of the 1980s, becoming something of a cerebral sex symbol and a reluctant, albeit bankable, movie star. Hurt later transitioned into character roles in the 1990s and successfully alternated between big screen projects and television shows, scoring Emmy nominations for his work as a whistleblower in “Damages” and his portrayal of Treasury Secretary Henry Paulson in “Too Big to Fail.”
More recently, Hurt became well known to a younger generation of movie lovers with his portrayal of the no-nonsense General Thaddeus Ross in 2008’s “The Incredible Hulk.” He later reprised the role in “Captain America: Civil War” and “Avengers: Infinity War,” “Avengers: Endgame” and “Black Widow.”

He had a career spanning 60 years, with his most iconic roles being D.S. George Carter in 'The Sweeney', Terry McCann in 'Minder' and retired cop Gerry Standing in 'New Tricks'.He was also a pretty good singer and famously sang on 'Minder's' opening theme.
Those in the UK will never forget his work with John Thaw, D.I. Jack Regan, The Sweeney and George Cole, Arthur Daley, Minder.

That great actor Philip Baker Hall is gone at age 90. Most remember him as Bookman the library cop on "Seinfeld," or from his many appearances in the films of Paul Thomas Anderson, but I remember him best in one of his few starring roles: Robert Altman's "Secret Honor" (1984). Playing Richard Nixon in his retirement/exile, with the whole movie to himself (Hall had previously done the one-man drama on stage) Hall elevates Nixon to a Eugene O'Neill level of self-denying tragedy. It's one of the greatest movie performances you've (probably) never seen.

Sad, one of the early R N R greats, I grew up with his music. Just to note that when I first became musically aware, Rock and Roll was little more than 10 years old, so the Radio playlists were restricted to the late fifties and sixties.

First Kevin Conroy and now another big piece of my childhood has died. Jason David Frank, best known as Tommy Oliver on "Power Rangers" and perhaps the greatest to suit up as a Ranger, died at 49 from suicide. JDF played Tommy through five different Ranger outfits, Green Mighty Morphin, White Mighty Morphin, Red Zeo, first Red Turbo and Black Dino Thunder, as well as making special appearances across the franchise for a grand total of 130 episodes.
-
Jason David Frank's passing is a real heartbreaker. When I was a kid, the green ranger was the coolest power ranger. My mother used to joke that after all the parents had to buy the green ranger stuff, they made him white and gold in the movie to force you to run out and buy all the new merchandise.
49 is young and even more heartbreaking that it was a suicide. He will be greatly missed.

This one hurts a lot. Annie Wersching, best known on the CSSA boards as Frecklicious and for her impressive cleavage and known to the rest of the world as Renee Walker on "24" as well as other TV roles such as "Bosch" and "Timeless" and her voice and motion caption work on the video game "The Last of Us" as Tess, succumbed to cancer at only 45.
-
So celebs actually do crash the boards? I thought that was a myth for the most part still sad to hear
-
No, she was never there. Frecklicious was the board members' collective and affectionate nickname for her. If she had infiltrated the boards, I'd imagine it would've been a combination of lust and panic filling CSSA. Sorry for the confusion.
Additionally, Annie's "Runaways" co-star Ever Carradine set up a GoFundMe page for Annie's three sons if you wish to donate.

Fair enough still the other way would have been cool

We've lost Raquel Welch at 82 to a "brief illness." Welch rose to prominence in 1966's "Fantastic Voyage", which was then followed the same year with "One Million Years B.C.", where her appearance in a doe-skin bikini made her an international sex symbol. She became well-known for breaking the mold of sex symbols in the '60s and '70s by making her roles into strong female characters, which included a Golden Globe win 1974 for "The Three Musketeers". As for her beauty's legacy, Welch was named one of the 100 Sexiest Stars in Film History by Empire in 1995 and dubbed one of the 100 Sexiest Stars of the Twentieth Century by Playboy.
-
She was one of my four female crushes.
R.I.P.
-
Very sad to see Raquel Welch go. She was a legendary icon. Many models and other celebs did photoshoots based around her famous 1 million BC posters.
She was in a lot of movies in the 70s. An argument can be had she was one of the most beautiful women ever.

Yeah, he was one of those guys who you remembered as a character actor no matter what he was in. Actors like that are hard to come across today.

Wayne Shorter, one of the most admired and singular American jazz composers and saxophonists of the modern era has died at 89.
After brief runs with the Horace Silver Quintet and the Maynard Ferguson big band, Shorter’s career began in earnest in 1959 when he joined Art Blakey’s Jazz Messengers, a four-year tenure that found him graduating to musical director for the group while blossoming into a multi-faceted composer and master of the driving, hard bop sound.
He then moved on to a fruitful six-year run with jazz icon Miles Davis, first in his Quintet, where Shorter was able to stretch his musical wings and add layers to his already formidable talents, including on Davis’ landmark 1969 jazz fusion albums In a Silent Way and B****** Brew.
A master on the tenor saxophone, by the time Shorter left the Davis orbit he had moved on to playing soprano sax in the 1970s and 80s with keyboardist Joe Zawinul, bassist Miroslav Vitous, percussionist Airto Moreira and drummer Alphonse Mouzon in the fusion supergroup Weather Report; other members of the group of the years included genre-defining jazz bassist Jaco Pastorious, beloved session drummers Steve Gadd and Omar Hakim and Sly and the Family Stone drummer Greg Errico.
In addition to his stints in those bands, Shorter also collaborated with folk icon Joni Mitchell on 10 albums, Brazilian composer/singer Milton Nascimento, fellow former Davis bandmember Carlos Santana (on 1980’s The Swing of Delight) and, in perhaps his most high-profile non-jazz collab, he played the extended solo on the title track to Steely Dan’s 1977 Aja album.

I posted about Wayne on the discord, but didn't get a chance here.
Wayne was part of Miles' "Second Great Quintet". He was on a bunch of great albums like Miles Smiles all the way up to his flirting with fusion stuff like Filles de Kilimanjaro.
Huge loss for the Jazz community, he was an amazing Sax player.

Gary Rossington, guitarist and last surviving original member of Lynyrd Skynyrd, has died at age 71.
He played on all 14 Skynyrd studio albums and co-wrote some of their biggest songs, including “Simple Man,” “Sweet Home Alabama,” “Gimme Back My Bullets” and “What’s Your Name.”

Actor Robert Blake has died at age 89.
Best performance IMO: as Jimmy Hoffa in the 1983 tv-movie Blood Feud.
-
I lost my dog yesterday. 16 years old. I am 30, and that means I was only 14 when I first got him. I had that dog for more than half of my life.
It has not been an easy past two days for me. I wanted to have hope and I guess you can call it denial at first. He suffered a massive seizure Monday morning, and I am just glad he's not suffering anymore, but that don't make it any easier. Heartbroken and devastated, I don't know what to do with myself yet. I just want to write to get my mind off of it.
-
I feel your pain I lost my cats a few years ago to old age and kidney failure still miss those wacky furballs
-
Thanks Money, I'm crushed right now. I keep looking down thinking he's near my feet, or in the living room, or in one of his beds. It feels so weird not waking up to him being there. I didn't lose a pet, I lost a family member. 16 years is a long life for a dog, but I wish I could've had more time.
-
I get it my cats lasted 19 years still think they will jump on the bed, scratch the door wanting out, or howl for food in the kitchen and God help you if they were mad for some reason
-

-
For those of you who enjoyed staying home sick from school because it meant getting to watch rednecks fight on daytime TV, I'm sorry to break this one to you. Jerry Springer, the former mayor of Cincinnati turned titan of trashy talk shows, has died at 79. Let's do it one more time.

It's hard to go to a dance club, school dance or prom night, birthday party, ice skating or roller rink, bar or bat mitzvah, quinceañera, wedding or sporting event with hearing "Cha Cha Slide". For that, we have to thank DJ Casper for his 2000 hit. Sadly, he has passed away after battling cancer. He was only 58 years old.

We've lost Bob Barker at 99. He hosted "The Price Is Right" for 35 years, serving as one of TV's most endearing game show hosts with his charming personality and razor sharp wit. Another icon for children of the 90’s and Batman fans has left us. Arleen Sorkin, the original voice actress and inspiration for Harley Quinn has passed away at age 67. Sorkin took a character that was meant to just be a female mook for the Joker to boss around and helped make her into a pinnacle and icon of DC Comics, animation, and films. She retired from the role in 2009, but her impact on the character remains etched into the core of Harleen Quinzel right down to her very name.
May she rest in peace.
-
Okay this one hurts as a series fan I always enjoyed the episodes with the joker and Harley I could always tell when Harley was around from that grating shrill voice that made me cringe right before she would whack the dark knight with that hammer of hers making an entrance of all the villains in Batman's rouges gallery other than the joker Harley was a true loose cannon and heaven help you if she was gunning for you Harley may have been a second banana but she was no joke
Arleen will be missed this is a sad day for fans I motion the Bat Signal should be lit above city hall for all actors who had a hand in any Batman projects over the years contributing to a character that is an icon to so many
-
I became a fan of Arleen Sorkin back when I watched soap operas and she appeared on Days of Our Lives. She was paired with the great John DeLancie (later Q on Star Trek:TNG) and they were the first to show you could do comedy on soaps. R.I.P.
-
RIP Jimmy Buffet, was just listening to him yesterday.
-
Steve Harwell, former lead singer of Smash Mouth, passed away this morning at age 56
-
It's impossible not listen to "All Star" without thinking of "Mystery Men" or, as is the case with most, the opening scene from "Shrek". Rest well, Steve. And as for Jimmy, I hope he's in the eternal Margaritaville enjoying his cheeseburger in paradise. What an absolute legend he was!

The peerless James Earl Jones is gone at age 93.
-
James Earl Jones passing really hurts.
He had possibly the most iconic voice in all of American entertainment history. I last saw him a few months ago in the movie Gang Related.
-
He was the benchmark for any iconic villain voice that came after him he will always be remembered as Darth Vader to generations of sci fi fans among other roles going back to the 70's
My brother actually got to meet him years ago such a humble and kind man to everyone he met he will be missed
-
Where do you even begin with James Earl Jones? Darth Vader, Mufasa, “Field of Dreams”, “The Sandlot”, narrating “The Raven” on “The Simpsons”, “This is CNN”, Michigan football hype videos. They are all forever ingrained in my brain because of that deep, booming, powerful voice.
-
The great Maggie Smith has left the stage at age 89.

-
The wonderful Teri Garr, who I remember from all the way back when she was a supporting player on the original Sonny & Cher tv show, all the way through Young Frankenstein, Tootsie, Friends and so many others, is gone at age 79.
-
This hurts for me since Young Frankenstein is my favorite Mel Brooks movie who can forget the classic line from the giant door scene Gene Wilder seeing the huge ornaments on it and saying "What knockers." and she thanks him that is classic comedy that this generation needs to take notes from on what's funny she was a Hollywood beauty for her time and she will be missed
-

-
2 time Oscar winner Gene Hackman, his wife and their dog were found dead in their home in Santa Fe. Gene was 95
-
As much as I admired Gene Hackman, as a pure Buffy fanatic the loss of Michelle Trachtenberg affects me so much more. The youngest member of the cast being the first to die is so saddening.
-
I'm not going to compare deaths like that. Gene Hackman was a legendary actor and in several movies I loved. He also wrote western and mystery books that were good too.
The Birdcage, Unforgiven, French Connection, Get Shorty, Scarecrow. I'm leaving out a bunch I know, but these are the first that come to mind for me.
-
This one hurts my first introduction to Gene Hackman was the first Superman movie he will always be the OG big screen Lex Luthor to me the best villain by far seeing him other things across the decades be it Heartbreakers with a very, very young Jennifer Love Hewitt or the classic football movie the replacements with a very crazy Linebacker that will become Iron man's driver in the MCU and some guy who was in the Matrix Gene will be missed by this movie fan very much
-
This one hurts...
Val Kilmer has passed away due to complications with throat cancer and pneumonia. He was the first Batman I saw but his most iconic role for me is Doc Holliday in Tombstone.
-
I feel your pain Val Kilmer will always be "Iceman" to me best wingman ever
-
That sucks. RIP.
At least he got to be in the new Top Gun (which really lived up to the hype—upstaging the original in my view.)
-
That sucks. RIP.
At least he got to be in the new Top Gun (which really lived up to the hype—upstaging the original in my view.)
I liked the new Top Gun better than the original too.
I loved Kilmer in 'Heat' where he played Chris. The only surviving member of Neil's crew.
