Title: NFL 2022
Post by: Cosmo Kramer on March 08, 2022, 02:14:09 PM
Sorry to steal 313’s thunder, I know he usually does the sports thing but I think he’ll be okay with this.

The good Lord taketh, and he giveth away… wait that’s not the saying?  Well, just when Broncos country was crushed by the news of Aaron Rodgers returning to Green Bay, GM George Paton pulls off one hell of a Plan B and trades for Russell Wilson.

I’m sure 313 will have all the updates. ;)

Broncos gave up a king's ransom to get Russ. Has it been announced yet who the players are involved in this trade?

The only name I’ve heard confirmed so far is Drew Lock going to Seattle.  Obviously there would have to be a lot more going back to the Seahawks, surely multiple 1st round picks, probably 2nds and 3rds as well.  I did see a rumor that Seattle wanted Bradley Chubb too, not sure if Denver would part with him though.

*** Per Ian Rapoport of NFL Network:

Broncos get: QB Russell Wilson, fourth-round pick

Seahawks get: two first-round picks, two second-round picks, a fifth-round pick, QB Drew Lock, DL Shelby Harris and TE Noah Fant

Sucks to lose Harris for sure, the depth along the D-line was questionable to begin with, a little unfortunate to have to lose Fant but the development of Albert O makes that less painful.

For Drew Lock, I wish him well, I honestly think we did not do an adequate job of developing him (the Pat Shurmur hire has got to be one of the biggest blunders in recent team history).  Probably for the best that Drew gets to start fresh in a new environment.

For Denver, obviously this is a huge net win.  An elite QB that should still have a good 4-5 years of high level play at least, between Wilson and the new coaching staff I think the remaining skill players in Denver have a chance to completely go off next year.

And, given the interests of this board, I would be remiss if I did not include the addition of Mrs. Russell Wilson as another huge win.  Definitely love me some Ciara. ;D

I'm cool.  I know I usually stay silent during the offseason, but this is too big to ignore.  The Broncos won big and the Seahawks should be ashamed of themselves.  I know our friend FFStoryman is going to be despondent.  Hell, I'm watching ESPN right now to see how poor Mina Kimes reacts.  But hey, congratulations on getting Ciara in the Mile High City, Cosmo.

Brady is back.

Anyone want to check on Cade? Saints might be trading for Deshaun Watson it sounds like.

So far, all these teams have traded away first round draft picks for the upcoming draft.

Rams - Stafford
49ers - Lance
Seahawks - Jamal Adams
Bears - Justin Fields
Broncos - Wilson
Browns - Watson
Colts - Wentz
Raiders - Adams

This has been a wild ride and we're not even at the draft yet.

For once, I agree with the commish.  NFL commissioner Roger Goodell called Browns quarterback Deshaun Watson "predatory," saying the evidence demands at a least a one-year ban.  Goodell said he does not know the timeline of the appeal ruling.

UPDATE:  Who wants it more?  "Monday Night Football" is going to overtime as the Broncos and Chargers are tied at 16 at the end of regulation.

He’s been every bit the player I saw when he was at Michigan and he has been paying huge dividends in the pros so far.  If he builds a little more muscle and the Lions build a better defense around him, Hutchinson will be unstoppable.

Also, who’s ready for a clash south of the border?  The 49ers and Cardinals are continuing the NFC West rivalry on “Monday Night Football” in Mexico City’s Estadio Azteca.  Updates to come.

It would be something if the Lions managed to sneak into the playoffs while the Rams are crashing and burning.

Maybe we should avoid drafting a QB and stick with Goff?

What a thriller today in Minneapolis!  The Vikings overcame a 33-point deficit to stun the Colts, 39-36, in overtime in the largest comeback in NFL history.  The Bills' 1993 Wild Card win over the Houston Oilers was the previous largest comeback.  Updates to come.

The Bills beat the Dolphins, 32-29.  (What a thriller tonight in Orchard Park!)

If I had a nickel for each time a coach was fired in the last two seasons before finishing his first year, I would have two nickels, which is not a lot, but it is weird it has happened twice.  The Broncos fired head coach Nathaniel Hackett after just 15 games and expressed confidence in general manager George Paton.

It is big game time!  Josh Allen and the Bills are facing Joe Burrow and the Bengals on “Monday Night Football” in a game with huge home-field implications.  Updates to come.

UPDATE:  This was scary to watch.  The Bills vs. Bengals game was temporarily suspended after the Bills’ Damar Hamlin collapsed on the field and received CPR.

UPDATE 2:  I do not blame the players for not wanting to continue after what they witnessed.  The Bills vs. Bengals game was officially postponed tonight.  The NFL said Hamlin is in critical condition.

UPDATE 3:  We now know more details of what happened.  According to the Bills, Hamlin suffered a cardiac arrest and his heartbeat was restored on the field.  He is currently sedated and in critical condition.

Still no update on Hamlin as of this morning.

I've seen a lot of injuries from watching football over the years, but that one takes the top of scary ones. There was barely any contact at all, but proof that it comes down to inches.

The league office should be ashamed for trying to continue that game when the players and coaches refused. Big credit to McDermott and Taylor for coming together as coaches and ending it.

I find this suspicious, but we'll see if it is true or not.  NFL vice president of football operations Troy Vincent said there was no discussion of a warmup period to resume play on Monday.

UPDATE:  This should clear up some misinformation.  The NFL announced Monday's Bills vs. Bengals game will not be resumed this week.  The league has not made changes to the Week 18 schedule.

2 days ago, there was a report that it was "a done deal" if Harbaugh was offered an NFL job. Rumors are that the Broncos and Panthers reached out to him.

The Carolina talk was confirmed. Now today, out of Harbaugh's mouth (https://www.cbssports.com/college-football/news/jim-harbaugh-thinks-ill-be-coaching-michigan-next-season-amid-reported-talks-with-nfls-panthers/) himself. So take it for what you will. I really don't think he's this super hot commodity the media thinks he is.

He would be crazy to go back to the NFL. I know the national media has this strange obsession with him and he gets all this credit for the 49ers making a SB over a decade ago (even though Kyle Shanahan has also taken them to a SB and rebuilt them) but he's finally found some kind of success at Michigan after spending nearly a decade there. He's still an arrogant blowhard that I can't stand, but beating OSU back to back years says a lot for them. With an expanded playoff format next year, they'll be right back in the bracket next year regardless if they're undefeated again or not.

I disagree the Carolina job is a good spot for him. When he went to the 49ers, they already had an elite defense that had been built up under Nolan and Singletary. Carolina don't have that, nor do they have a strong running game. Whoever goes there is going to have to rebuild them from the ground up. Harbaugh's style of offense is suited for the Big 10 and he should stay at Michigan.

Damar Hamlin's situation should be a reminder to all of us that these players are human beings. When we get mad at cuss at the TV for a guy being 'trash' or a 'scrub', off the field they have a family and are everyday people.

I really wish the NFL hadn't have added the 17th regular season game. Had they not, then Buffalo and Cincy wouldn't have even been playing Monday night. That was just one more game added to the schedule to risk something like this. As someone who has a heart condition, I really hope he didn't have similar problems that were triggered in this game.

I'm guessing OBJ's injury was worse than we know. Dallas isn't the only team desperately in need of WR that passed on signing him.

I remember at the end of 2018 when the Saints signed Dez Bryant after a whole off season of no one wanting him after his injuries. He ended up tearing his ACL on the first practice.

Adding insult to injury Dallas woes continue as contracts expire on no less than 12 key players knowing cap number for Dallas will only be around 7 mill I don't see Jerry keeping more than 4 players if he's lucky

And a number of them are star players who played out rookie deal so you know they want to be paid with some big numbers last I heard the jets have the cap space so back to the draft

As stated earlier Dallas coach is safe for now yet with 12 free agents possibly going elsewhere Jerry will have to spend more cap money he really doesn't have on average and below players from the bargain bin and clearance shelf to fill gaps

And breaking news Pollard injury worse than expected high ankle sprain plus broken leg in a contract year 3 month recovery window so by draft time he might be cleared to practice so Jerry could spend a throw way pick on a bust

Dallas is overrated every year.

Despite what people are saying, that was not really a 'choke' last night. They never had a lead and it never felt like they were in control of the game. The score was close all game due to great defensive play and the Niners not getting touchdowns.

The final play was hilarious. Just when you thought they couldn't top the stupidity of last year's final play, they do it again. Yet next year, they'll win some games and people will hype up Kellen Moore as a playcaller and talk about him being a head coach.

I'm more impressed with Cincy going into Buffalo and laying a beat down on the Bills. I would be over the moon if Joe Burrow won a SB.

The Saints could've had Mahomes and wanted him. They also could've had Lamar Jackson the next year.

Since I am a Louisiana born Saints fan, I have every right to say that if you're a fan of a team and want Sean Payton as your coach, you should lower your expectations. You'll make the playoffs, but you won't win a SB. Our lone SB win with a HOF QB don't happen at all without Bountygate and trying to injure Favre in the NFCCG.

Mike McCarthy gets a lot of criticism for wasting Aaron Rodgers prime, but Sean Payton did the same thing, and even worse. At least the Packers were making the playoffs in those years. The Saints went 7-9 in most of Brees' best seasons. Look up the 2014, 2015 and 2016 seasons. One of those years I remember Carolina winning the division at 7-8-1 and the Saints couldn't even take advantage of a lousy division.

The way I see it, Payton and McCarthy are about the same coach, though I'd say McCarthy might actually be better. He has more road wins in the playoffs. Payton's only road playoff win came against a Chip Kelly coached Eagles team.

With all that said; I think Payton is sitting out a coaching job this summer and goes back to Fox. I think he wanted the Chargers or Cowboys job, and he isn't getting either of them now. After this season, he can go where ever without the Saints needing to trade his rights.

The Brock Purdy fairy tale is over.  The Eagles beat the 49ers, 31-7, to fly to Super Bowl LVII on Feb. 12 in Glendale, Ariz.  The Eagles are making their fourth trip to the Super Bowl.  The 49ers had two quarterbacks exit injured.

UPDATE:  It's clutch time in KC!  The Bengals and Chiefs are tied at 20 with 4:56 left in the AFC Championship Game and a spot in the Super Bowl on the line.

U{DATE 2:  This is such a familiar story.  The Chiefs are back in the Super Bowl as Patrick Mahomes needed only 30 seconds to to lead the winning drive over the Bengals, 23-20, in the AFC title game.  The Chiefs will face the Eagles on Feb. 12.

I don't know if you talk to actual Cowboys fans, but most of them aren't fond of Kellen Moore. He's an overrated play caller and they likely won't be missing him.

I have never understood why Mike McCarthy gets so much criticism while Sean Payton does not. They're pretty much the same coach. Both won only one SB with a HOF QB and couldn't get back to the big game. Both arguably wasted the primes of said HOF QBs. Only difference is that McCarthy actually has more playoff wins than Payton, including more road wins. I posted a while back that if Dallas had traded for Payton, they'd be replacing McCarthy with the same coach.

Dallas has been eliminated for over a week, let's talk about the Super Bowl teams!  :))

Quite the opposite reaction here.  I may be a lifelong Lions fan, but as somebody who was raised on Michigan football, it is bittersweet to see Tom go.  I rooted for him hard when he was in Maize and Blue and when I saw he had to back up Drew Bledsoe upon coming to the NFL, I thought either he learns under this experienced veteran or he never plays a regular season down.  But then to see him emerge as a leader and have a career that is, dare I say, unparalleled was remarkable.  The longer he stayed in the NFL, the more in awe even I grew of what he became.  So thank you, Tom, for giving football a career we will never forget, whether we want to or not.  See you in 2028 in Canton.

Title: Re: NFL 2022

I can't see Payton having success in Denver. They are depleted on draft picks, stuck with Russ, and I clearly remember all the 7-9 seasons we had in Brees' prime. Those years were wasted with horrible defensive play and we couldn't even take advantage of a horrible NFC South in 2 of those 3 years. I remember the Panthers winning the division with a 7-8-1 record in one of those years. Worth reminding people that Sean Payton and Mike McCarthy are literally the same coach. Their playoff record is near identical.

With that said, the Saints are turning into a dumpster fire. They kept Dennis Allen who had an 8-28 record in Oakland and is now re-assembling his 2014 Raiders coaching staff by bringing in his guys.

I do not want Derek Carr as QB. The Saints are 60 million over the cap because their GM just kicks the can down the road every year and calls it "magic". This team desperately needs a rebuild. If they go for Carr, that's a 40 million contract added to their awful cap situation. They have the oldest roster in the league and are in the worst division in football. I am so baffled at the NOLA media and fans acting like this team is a contender and just a QB away from the playoffs. I do not care how bad the NFC South is. Who really wants to win a bad division and get blown out in the wildcard? We watched that happen to Tampa last month.

As the fans keep hyping up Carr, I remember that October game where he scored zero points against the Saints and only put up 101 yards and 1 INT.

The Saints are nowhere close to being a playoff team. I think the Eagles showed how to build a team in the past few years. I'd rather do like them and try to rebuild, instead of acting like this old roster is good enough to win now just cause we play in a sorry division.

I hope Mahomes breaks the MVP curse now and takes home the Lombardi.

Watching him the past few years has been insane. I've never seen a QB like him. We usually find archetypes to compare current QBs to past legends, but Mahomes is an entirely different category of his own. He's mobile like Steve Young, has a cannon like Dan Marino, and wins like Joe Montana. I wish he played for my team, but am grateful to be living in an era to witness his greatness.

Well, since an Eagle is in this story, I better reserve this spot for the Super Bowl.  According to Adam Schefter, the Colts are targeting Eagles offensive coordinator Shane Steichen as their next head coach and are informing other candidates of their decision.  Updates to come.

UPDATE:  Buckle up because the Super Bowl is getting tight.  Jalen Hurts and the Eagles are outdueling Patrick Mahomes and the Chiefs for a 27-21 lead entering the fourth quarter.

UPDATE 2:  This is getting very exciting!  DeVonte Smith’s 45-yard catch set up Hurts’ third rushing touchdown of the game as the Eagles and Chiefs are tied at 35 in the Super Bowl.

UPDATE 3:  Okay, Money, go ahead and celebrate.  The Chiefs' Harrison Butker kicked a field goal in the closing seconds to beat the Eagles, 38-35, to win their third Super Bowl in franchise history.

UPDATE 4:  It's never too early to look into the future.  I was looking at the way-too-early power rankings for next year.  Are the Chiefs and Eagles still on top?  Where do the Cowboys land?  It's time to see where all 32 NFL teams rank for next season.

1.  Chiefs
2.  Eagles
3.  49ers
4.  Bengals
5.  Bills
6.  Cowboys
7.  Chargers
8.  Dolphins
9.  Vikings
10.  Jaguars
11.  Ravens
12.  Lions
13.  Seahawks
14.  Steelers
15.  Giants
16.  Packers
17.  Patriots
18.  Commanders
19.  Browns
20.  Jets
21.  Raiders
22.  Rams
23.  Panthers
24.  Titans
25.  Buccaneers
26.  Falcons
27.  Broncos
28.  Saints
29.  Bears
30.  Colts
31.  Cardinals
32.  Texans

Ryan hasn't couched since 2016.

All this really proves is that Payton does not have any connections to younger, up and coming defensive coaches. That was one of his problems in NOLA. All of his DCs were retreads and often his buddies. Rob Ryan was an absolute disaster in NOLA.

Your illustrious leader Jerry has let it slip that Dallas is considering going after Ohio state QB CJ Stroud now Stroud is a top 5 pick yet Dallas picks at #26  and draft history tells us Jerry won't trade up unless he gets the deal he wants which often means the player will be a reach or bust last time he tried this they almost drafted Johnny football and we all saw what a disaster that career was

My take away is Jerry wants away from the big contracts for Dak and Zeke to clear cap space to find the next Romo clone and claim he's a football genius without Jimmy and built a championship team without him sounds like the ego has landed (mic drop)

Ok Denver fans you can breath they will bring back DC Vance Joseph so the Rex Ryan experiment is dead you dodged a bullet there but as a rival fan I'm keeping an eye on you my radar just went hot

Honestly, I’m a bit underwhelmed by the hire.  I would have preferred to stick with the Vic Fangio tree for DC, obviously Fangio himself wouldn’t have been a realistic option, and once Nathaniel Hackett got fired it seemed inevitable that Ejiro Evero would want to move on.

Supposedly a lot of teams are high on Vance Joseph as being a great “leader of men” but his track record as both a head coach and a DC are mediocre at best.  I can only hope that Denver can have at least a semblance of a functional offense next year, perhaps that will help mask any of his deficiencies as a coach and allow him to focus on “leading” the defense, whatever that means.

All of this has proved that Payton does not have connections to young, up and coming coordinators.

He has poached much of the Saints coaching staff, bringing his friends along with him. The Saints should've cleaned house last year in that regard, but instead went with Dennis Allen trying to continue the Payton regime. I look for Allen to be fired next year when they go 4-12. Of the former staff, Joe Lombardi is one I will not miss. Lombardi ran their passing game into the ground going back to Payton's last year here.

As for my team; I am strongly against this idea of going into further salary cap hell to sign a washed up Derek Carr. I can clearly remember when we played the Raiders last year, Carr put up zero points and couldn't even cross the 50 yard line. We already have a mediocre QB in Dalton who is much cheaper. I'm not expecting the Saints to be any good next year. They allowed Dennis Allen to bring his other coaches from his 2014 Raiders team who finished 4-12. I'm expecting similar results.

Yes Dallas fans the troll train has arrived again

Now this is sad we haven't even gotten to the combine yet and your leader Jerry has let it slip he wants to restructure Dak's contract reduce Zeke's role as a 3rd down/short yardage back and not pay Pollard to keep him around even though he still has another year on his deal on top of leaking the team draft strategy of taking Texas RB phenom with #26 pick

Looks like the snake oil shipment is just about to arrive good luck in the draft looks like your going to need it

Before I go this is the greatest movie quote that describes a Dallas fan "So full of promise, so full of life, ignorant of reality"

If you know what movie it's from and who's in the scene I might do a custom story for the right answer

The trolling train has returned Dallas fans now we get reports that the brass are wanting to have coaching staff look at themselves to see what changes have to happen since the job isn't getting done on the field

 translation

Everybody fired except the brass if they don't win chip this year sounds like coaches need to update resumes just in case dumpster fire goes Rouge again

Are you a secret Cowboys fan Money?

You post updates about them so often, I'd think you were a Dallas beat reporter.

Nope KC to the core where I live Dallas fans are migrating here in big numbers

I only troll Dallas fans and Brady homers after having to endure the constant "we are awesome " bullshit for nearly 30 years straight

If Jerry and the Dallas brass would just be quiet and let the team do what Jerry is paying them for he would live longer but his ego gets in the way every year then I wouldn't have a reason to troll them so often

The troll train has returned Dallas fans

Can someone explain how Zeke is making 10 mill this year yet Jerry is willing to franchise tag Pollard and give him a big contract so he won't lose Pollard to a rival even though cutting Zeke would only cause a small dead cap hit short term?

I swear somebody just needs to take the keys away from grandpa before he runs the team bus into a ditch again
then again it is fun watching this annual train wreck and see Dallas fans hopes go up in flames Dallas already in salary cap hell with very little cap space to begin with should be interesting come final roster cut day and see which of Jerry's kids will be homeless

Ok Cade got some saints news seems during the combine your guys have been talking with my guy QB Hendon Hooker out of Tennessee looks to be a 3rd round pick so if it does go down with a little development you should have a solid option at QB

That's the rumors so far. The Saints are going all in trying to land Derek Carr, which I've posted on here before how unhappy that has made me. I don't want Carr at all.

From what I'm hearing from the network is Carr is leaning towards jets since they have more cap space and a few weapons and a defense coming up

The used Carr went to the Saints after all. Judging by his previous comments, I know Cade can't be thrilled.

It's the troll train again Dallas fans

Seems your illustrious leader Jerry is at it again saying Dak can become a  Brady type player no matter what his cap hit is to me this screams delusional with that logic Jerry could pay me what he's pays Zeke and I could roll out of bed and.run for 1k yards and I've never opened a playboook in my life

Carr will be the first QB to get a coach fired twice. I am not drinking the kool aid and convincing myself he is some upgrade. He's a more expensive Andy Dalton. Knowing how this team operates though, this is their excuse to not draft a QB.

I can't believe the arrogance of the Saints organization. They keep talking about how bad the division is, and they literally just mortgaged their future to try and barely win the NFC South and get blown out in the wildcard round.

This team was lucky to finish 7-10 last year. Dennis Allen should've been fired. He inherited a team that went 9-8 in Payton's last year and was riddled with injuries. With the same team, he went 7-10.

As for all the talk about how "bad" the NFC South is, we still got swept by 2 of those teams. Carolina and Tampa had our number.

I won't be shocked when they go 5-12 next year. Allen will be fired, and we'll be stuck with Carr and all the excuses.

The troll train has returned Dallas fans and yes the heat is up after league releases cap space numbers get ready for high priced bodies to hit the floor with Dallas nearly 20 mill over the cap

Let's see Dak costs you 40 mill this year, Zeke costs you 10, Pollard costs you another 10, not counting what Lamb, Diggs, and Parsons are costing or will cost you in the future add in the big contracts for the defense and you have a nice big poop sandwich not to worry its plenty big

Let's just see which of Jerry's kids will make it to final roster cuts when the season starts

They sucked with Carr too. 63-79 record. They'll probably improve without him.

They are just kicking the can down the road. The Saints have been doing that for 10 years and Miami is doing it too.
