A very heavy weekend of international sport for English and British teams. Very stressful for me but I'm well used to it. Mixed results to say the least.
Saturday 12th: early start to see, final of Women's Rugby Union world cup. England (world number one team), having won 30 games in a row, were 14 - 0 up against New Zealand. Then Lydia Thompson, England's very experienced right winger, was sent off for a clash of heads during a tackle. Being one woman down for three quarters of the game proved too much for the 'Red Roses' who lost 34 - 31. A great game, with attendence and viewing records broken.
Afternoon, Men's Rugby League world cup semi-final, England 26 -27 Samoa (AET). A game that England were favorites to win. Sadly, we did not play up to standard and Samoa were very good. Lots of camera time on England's Coach, expletives were clear to non lip readers!

Saturday 12th Tennis, Billie Jean King Cup, semi-final. Great Britain lost 2 -1 to Australia with the match going to a tie break in the doubles with Alicia Barnett and Olivia Nicholls putting up a superb battle. This was Britain's best perfromance for many years. Despite our number one, Emma Raducanu, being unavailable due to injury.
Sunday 13th, another early start, 8am, to see Cricket T20 World Cup Final. England beat Pakistan by 5 wickets in Melbourne, Australia. Super bowling and fielding by England restricted Pakistan to 137 for 8. England hit 138 in 19 overs to win, bit close for me, but England always had the upper hand with Ben Stokes seeing us home with 52 not out.
Wheelchair Rugby League World Cup semi-final, England 125 - 22 Wales. Dominate performance, final against France next week.

Going to be some game with France now. Looking forward to that.

FIFA Men's World Cup quarter-final (10 December 2022) England 1 - 2 France. Tchouameni scored for France in the first half. Harry Kane equalised in the 54 minute from the penalty spot. Giroud scored in the 78 minute, against the run of play. Sadly, Harry Kane missed his 2nd penalty kick and England could not force a goal to send the game into extra time. The referee was a discrace.
But it always comes back to fucking penalties. 56 years of hurt. Gareth Southgate has made England into real contenders, so I hope he stays on as manager for the Euro 2024 competition.
