We're already coming up on the return of hockey season. The first drop of the puck comes today in Toronto. If you have news or notes from the ice, this is where you'll want to post. As always. please be respectful of others.

Okay, so this afternoon's game is the only regular season game and all the others are preseason games, but it's still Opening Day for me. Here's your schedule for the first day of the regular season.
San Jose Sharks at Nashville Predators today at 2 p.m. in the NHL Global Series
Buffalo Sabres at Pittsburgh Penguins tonight at 7 p.m.
Toronto Maple Leafs at Detroit Red Wings tonight at 7:30 p.m.
Seattle Kraken at Edmonton Oilers tonight at 9 p.m.
Winnipeg Jets at Calgary Flames tonight at 9 p.m.
Arizona Coyotes at Vancouver Canucks tonight at 10 p.m.

After a couple of games in Prague to open the regular season, the NHL has returned to North American soil (or ice). The Lightning are playing the Rangers right now. At 10 p.m., the Golden Knights will play the Kings. Updates to come.

I'm trying so hard to not to come off as a troll right now. According to Emily Kaplan, the Rangers are acquiring Patrick Kane from the Blackhawks for a 2023 conditional second-round pick and a 2023 fourth-round pick. Updates to come.

I need to get the record book off the shelf because it needs to be rewritten. David Pastrňák's hat trick led the Bruins to their 63rd win of the season to set the NHL record for most victories in a season with a 5-3 win over the Flyers.

An NHL personality is in this story, so I’ll post it here. According to Adam Schefter, Washington Commanders owners Daniel Snyder and Tanya Snyder reached a preliminary nonexclusive agreement to sell the Commanders to the group led by Devils and Philadelphia 76ers owner Josh Harris for $6.05 billion. It's time for playoff hockey! The NHL playoffs have begun. The Islanders are playing the Metropolitan rival Hurricanes now. The Panthers will play the Atlantic rival Bruins at 7:30 p.m. The Wild will play the Central rival Stars at 9:30 p.m. The Kings will play the Pacific rival Oilers at 10 p.m. Updates to come.
The Hurricanes beat the Islanders, 2-1.

Please, Lord, let Boston win so I don't look like a dumbass! The Bruins are on the brink of collapse and protecting their historic season against the Panthers as Game 7 is knotted at 3 after regulation. Updates to come.
UPDATE: What a thriller tonight in Boston! The top-seeded Bruins' record-breaking season ended in the first round of the Stanley Cup playoffs with a 4-3 Game 7 loss to the Panthers in overtime. The Panthers will play the Atlantic rival Maple Leafs beginning on Tuesday in Toronto.

This makes me quite happy. The reigning Stanley Cup champion Avalanche were eliminated in the first round of the playoffs after a 2-1 loss to the Kraken in Game 7. The Kraken will play the Stars beginning on Tuesday in Dallas.

This feels like the rivalry is taking the intensity up to 10. The Rangers are facing the Metropolitan rival Devils in Game 7 of a winner-take-all Battle of the Hudson matchup with seasons at stake. Updates to come.
UPDATE: We can still a rally in this one. The Devils are leading the Rangers, 2-0, entering the third period of the winner-take-all game.
UPDATE 2: It is a good night to wear red and black. Akira Schmid made 31 saves as the Devils took the Battle of the Hudson, 4-0, over the Rangers. It was the Devils’ first playoff series win since 2012. The Devils will play the Metropolitan rival Hurricanes beginning on Wednesday in Raleigh, N.C.

Games like this don’t come very often. The Stars’ Joe Pavelski’s fourth goal tied Game 1 against the Kraken at 4 at the end of regulation. Updates to come.

I feel sick. The Blackhawks won the No. 1 overall pick in the 2023 NHL draft lottery. The Ducks, Blue Jackets and Sharks rounded out the Top 4.

What a thriller tonight in Raleigh! The Panthers finished it in quadruple overtime when Matthew Tkachuk scored the winner in the 79th minute of overtime in a 3-2 win over the Hurricanes in the sixth-longest game in NHL history.

It is time to hunt for silver. The Panthers swept the Hurricanes with Matthew Tkachuk scoring an unbelievable goal with 4.9 seconds left for a 4-3 win for their second Stanley Cup Final appearance in franchise history and first since 1996.

This going to be a good showdown in the Sun Belt. The Golden Knights knocked off the Stars, 6-0, in Game 6 to advance to their second Stanley Cup Final in franchise history. The Golden Knights will play the Panthers beginning on Saturday in Las Vegas.

Chalk one up for the boys in armor. Mark Stone's goal was reviewed and upheld as the Golden Knights beat the Panthers, 5-2, to win Game 1 and take a 1-0 series lead in the Stanley Cup Final.

Looks like the newer of the two teams has all the momentum. The Golden Knights cruised in Game 2, pouring in seven goals and seeing Jack Eichel return from a brutal hit for a 7-2 win and a 2-0 Stanley Cup Final lead against the Panthers.

What a thriller tonight in Sunrise! Carter Verhaeghe was the overtime hero as he snapped it top shelf for a 3-2 Panthers win over the Golden Knights as clutch goals reduced the Stanley Cup Final deficit to 2-1.

It's not looking good for both teams from South Florida. The Golden Knights are one win away as Chandler Stephenson scored twice to defeat the Panthers, 3-2, to take a 3-1 series lead in the Stanley Cup Final.
UPDATE: Now I'm wondering how many players will be suspended for the next game. A big brawl ended Game 4 when the Golden Knights' Adin Hill made a save in the closing seconds before tensions exploded with the Panthers.
