Title: NFL 2023
Post by: InThe313 on March 10, 2023, 06:25:41 PM
With free agency starting on Monday, it seemed like as good of a time as any to open the new thread.  As usual, when news breaks for the the NFL, you can post about it here.  Have fun and, I cannot stress this rule enough,...

BE RESPECTFUL!  NOBODY LIKES AN ASSHOLE!  FAILURE TO COMPLY WITH THIS SIMPLE RULE WILL RESULT IN PUNISHMENT!

Enjoy, everybody.

Bears trade #1 overall pick to Carolina for haul that includes DJ Moore (https://www.espn.com/nfl/story/_/id/35830753/bears-trading-no-1-overall-pick-panthers-haul-includes-wr-dj-moore-sources-say)

DJ Moore is a legit WR1. I watched him rip up the Falcons secondary twice last year, and he had some plays against Tampa and the Saints too. Great pickup for Chicago!

I'm aware no trade yet when I posted that the story had just broke on the network morning show

Not my fault packers brass are holding jets hostage wanting 2 first rounders and jets playing hardball for a disinterested QB yeah he wants to play but if 49ers were calling this wouldn't be an issue

After some thought I found the draft order for this year and shocker Dallas only has 7 picks all of them late round choices this may be a disaster

Detroit has 8 picks with no 4th or 7th rounder but they are spread out so good players should be available

Now my guys have 10 picks not sure where they will go but this should be fun seeing how we hosting the draft

And Lamar Jackson shoots himself in the foot ( in a figurative way) where league memo states team brass only to negotiate with Lamar and nobody from his inner circle or family

They go on to mandate all players are to be represented by players union approved agents going forward which is telling current draft class don't do this if you plan on playing a long time which I'm sure Lamar will hire after league makes an example of him

They can't because in his contract, he owns the rights to pick who he wants to be traded to, and a trade to Baltimore makes no sense anyway.

Lamar Jackson at it again rejecting contract offer from Baltimore the big thing is the 133 mill guaranteed at signing the rest of it amounts to about 100 mill if he's not happy with those numbers this close to the draft I think team will let him sit and draft his replacement just to give him the finger and crush his ego for kicks

Rodgers goes to jets along with 2023 1st and 5th round picks for 1st, 2nd, and 6th round picks in 2023 and conditional 2024 2nd round pick that turns into first rounder if Rodgers plays 65% of the team snaps during the season

With the draft now over we can all take stock of what happened where the team is going and project a good season from the looks of it my guys KC just reloaded for another run we shall see how that works out

I'm keeping my eyes on Detroit those were some solid picks and in a few trades you got extra going into next year

So glad seeing my college team Tennessee getting some draft love titans, giants, da bears, and Detroit should be happy with grabbing those skill players and O line help

And surprise to no one nobody talking about Dallas if they don't have to Jerry might be losing his draft touch but I think it has more to do with blabbing about draft strategy beforehand

If Philly wants a chip rematch they loaded for bear now fear the green people should make for an interesting year

Now the fun begins with the schedule release and time for good news/bad news

good news Cade should be happy with Saints drawing 2nd easiest schedule right behind Atlanta, KC comes in at #16 which I'm good with Detroit comes in at #20 so they should have it better than 500 this year with the new pieces in place

Bad news Dallas has 4th hardest schedule so suck it up Dallas fans this is going to be a long year for you save time and hope for a 500 season you'll sleep better

There had been some debate whether a line in her song Gold Rush where she mentions her "Eagles t-shirt" was a reference to the football team or the band. She cleared it up by telling the crowd "I'm from Philly, of course it's the team." (Actually, she's from Reading PA, but all of southeastern PA is pretty much Eagles country).

it is way too early to determine strength of schedule. The Saints still have a coach with a 15-38 record and overpaid for a garbage QB they shut out last year. They didn't exactly upgrade as they still have the oldest roster in the league. The departures of most of the coaching staff following Sean Payton to Denver will be a huge concern. I'm not buying the hype until I see it.

KC lost our OC I'm not hitting the panic button

Saints should be fine new coach means nobody knows what offense your using or what schemes they have ready not like you have to sweat seeing Brady twice again

New coach was last year, and he has a 15-38 record; one of the worst in the league. If you watched them last year, their offense wasn't exactly explosive.

A future league vote will determine whether an owner (in this case Brady) will be allowed to suit up for Raiders my question is why? With that logic if Dallas made the championship game Jerry could suit up to make sure they made it to the super bowl while getting his head kicked in this proposal needs to die a horrible death and be buried forever keep Brady off the field

I split your Dallas posts in here into a singular thread because it gets tiresome reading your obsession with them. I don't think you realize or care how annoying it is to the rest of the people on this board how much you love talking about Dallas. For a Chiefs fan, you have a weird obsession with this team that don't even make sense to me since they're not in KC's division or even their conference. You talk as if this is still the 90s and the Cowboys are some SB contender when in reality, they have been mediocre for 90% of my lifetime (I'm 31 years old).

If they some how win another SB, I will be pinning the blame on you for reverse karma constantly posting updates about every move they make in this forum.

We're finally here!  The NFL season officially starts tonight with championship rings and, hey, look at that, my favorite team is getting a primetime spot on national TV to start the year.  Here's your Opening Night schedule:

Detroit Lions at Kansas City Chiefs tonight at 8:20 p.m.

Just back up the Brinks truck slowly.  According to Adam Schefter, Bengals quarterback Joe Burrow agreed to a $275 million extension that makes Burrow the highest-paid player in NFL history.

Are you ready for some football?  The Bills are playing the Jets on “Monday Night Football”.  Aaron Rodgers is making his Jets debut.  Updates to come.

UPDATE:  I do not want to make light of somebody getting hurt, but this is so typical of the Jets.  Rodgers was helped off the field and left the game in the first quarter because of an apparent leg injury against the Bills.

UPDATE 2:  This has to be soul-crushing for Gang Green.  Rodgers will not return against the Bills because of an ankle injury.  X-rays were negative.

UPDATE 3:  Are you ready for some bonus football?  The Bills’ Tyler Bass hit a late field goal that went off the upright with two seconds left to send the game against the Bills to overtime.

UPDATE 4:  What a thriller tonight in East Rutherford!  The Jets called game when Xavier Gipson returned a punt 65 yards in overtime to defeat the Bills, 22-16, without Rodgers.

UPDATE 5:  I hate to rain on a great game, but this needs to be said.  Head coach Robert Saleh said, “It’s not good,” as the Jets are fearing a torn Achilles for Rodgers.  Rodgers will get an MRI on Tuesday.

It's never a good sign in sports when ancient Greek mythology is referenced.  Multiple sources told ESPN that Jets quarterback Aaron Rodgers will miss the remainder of the season after an MRI confirmed a torn Achilles.

Aaron Rodgers injury comes in week 1. Back in 1999, the Jets were SB favorites coming off a great year. Vinny Testeverde blew his Achilles in the 2nd quarter, crushing their SB hopes. Chad Pennington also suffered career altering injuries as soon as he looked good.

Judging by the play last night, the Jets offensive line is awful and was a problem last year. Next week they have to deal with Micah Parsons and a scary Dallas defensive line. The spread on that game is going to go over 7+ if it hasn't already.

All that hard work went for nothing!  Russell Wilson's unreal and improbable 50-yard Hail Mary touchdown as time expired was not enough as the Broncos' two-point conversion failed against the Commanders in a 35-33 loss.

And they're blaming the refs. That game went so similar to the 2018 non-call game, it's hilarious.

Denver was up 21-3 and blew that lead to go down 24-35. That hail mary will look good on Russ' stat sheet, even though he couldn't do anything apart from his 3 bombs that fell and accounted for 150+ yards. Payton is calling games like he did in 2021 when he didn't want Jameis Winston throwing the ball much cause he couldn't trust him. I see the same thing with Wilson, whom he isn't going to be able to fix for the same he couldn't fix Winston.

Sean Payton is now 10-9 since Drew Brees retired.
I am amazed at how much this team resembles the Saints. You have all the boneheaded penalties, dirty hits on defense, and an offense that has a bunch of mediocre guys he thinks he can develop. Trautman was awful in NOLA which don't surprise me how bad he looks in Denver.

Broncos fans, welcome to the Sean Payton ride. He is a rock star headcoach. When the team is winning, everything is awesome and you love him despite him being an egotistical douche. When they're losing, get ready to hear about how it's all the refs fault, and lack of accountability on the team. He's already got the players blaming the refs for yesterday when they needed a miracle to even be in that position to try and tie for OT.

That game reminded me so much of the 2018 non-call game. The Saints were up 10-0, and then 20-10, and it took a miracle bomb pass by Brees to even get them in the red zone prior to the non-call. Everything became about the non-call and crying about the refs. No one wanted to take accountability for blowing a 10 point lead twice and all the sloppy play. Denver was up 21-3 at one point and should've never trailed by 11. This is what Sean Payton coached teams do. None of this surprises me. Drew Brees made him, not the other way around.

Strap your butts into a chair.  We're getting double the "Monday Night Football".  The Saints are playing the Panthers right now.  At 8:15 p.m., the Browns will play the Steelers.

The Saints beat the Panthers, 20-17.

UPDATE:  I hate seeing so many serious injuries this early in the season.  Browns head coach Kevin Stefanski said Nick Chubb is out for the season with a significant knee injury.  The Browns lost to the Steelers, 26-22.
Title: Re: NFL 2023

That was a painful game to watch.

I am still not sold on the Saints. They are 2-0 barely beating bad teams. They barely beat the Titans by 1 point, and 3 points against a rookie QB with a bad team.

Derek Carr plays like he is scared to get hit, and generally is trash. I've never seen a 9 year veteran starting QB with worse footwork. They paid this man 150 million to play like ass for most of the game.

This looks like a team who is going to run into a buzz saw when they finally play a decent team, and just get thoroughly undressed and exposed. The defense has to play like a legendary unit to just barely win games cause their 150 million dollar QB can't get it done. Taysom Hill extended drives tonight leading to their 2 TDs. They should've just went with Hill and saved all that money.

I cannot believe how bad the Broncos are with Sean Payton.

In 2012, the year he was suspended for Bountygate, the Saints had a historically bad defense. They finished 7-9.

In 2014, 2015 and 2016, they set all time records for how bad they were in scoring defense, passing defense and rushing defense. They finished 7-9 in those years.

Drew Brees was the sole reason the floor didn't fall out in those years and they got 7 wins. Brees made Payton, and he ain't walking through that door any time soon.

This is the most Sean Payton thing ever to hire a retread defensive coordinator and the defense totally collapse. 70 points and 700+ yards.

Hats off to the Dolphins. Tua is the real deal.

It's funny cause she is one woman I'd never want head from and would pass given the opportunity.

Let's stick to football talk and not her.

Some recent news:

Jets sign Trevor Sieman (https://www.espn.com/nfl/story/_/id/38497338/source-jets-sign-veteran-free-agent-qb-trevor-siemian)

Packers are optimistic Aaron Jones and Christian Watson will play on Thursday (https://www.espn.com/nfl/story/_/id/38499157/packers-optimistic-aaron-jones-christian-watson-play-thursday) vs the Lions.

F_E and 313, how do you fellas feel about the Lions so far in the season? Even with one loss, I think they've looked great in what little I've seen him. We Saints fans surely miss that gutsy, aggressive play style Dan Campbell is bringing.

Congrats on the big win.

Not going to lie to you, it irritates me seeing Detroit finish them off when the Saints couldn't despite shutting them out until midway into the 4th quarter.

Dan Cambell is such a better coach than Dennis Allen, it's not even funny. Allen coached so conservatively after Carr went down and let the defense get tired out. Campbell takes risks like you'd want from a coach. The Lions didn't allow a comeback, they finished them where the Saints couldn't.

It’s been insane of late.  Seeing fans anoint the Lions as the new kings of the NFC North feels so foreign yet so nice.  Once they get the postseason berth, I’ll really feel good.  However, after the started 1-6 last season, they’re now 11-3 in their last 14 games.  It’s like *starts singing* What is this feeling, so sudden and new?

Oh, so that's why you don't post links? All of those you named are gossipers and not real news.

Kirk Cousins has a no trade clause in his contract, explained here (https://sports.yahoo.com/adam-schefter-comments-potential-kirk-201246409.html).

Cousins is a reminder of the state of the NFL where teams stupidly overpay for mediocre QBs and pamper them at the expense of the rest of the team. He's not even the best example of this. Look no further than my team overpaying a QB with a 65-81 record (as of yesterday) to play even worse than the 2 they had last year for cheap. Minnesota can't even get rid of Cousins if they wanted to due to the no trade clause. The Saints probably did the same thing with Carr given how stupid they are.

Funny thing those gossipers as you call them all came from the big news network after being let go for whatever reason and are making more money at the new spot with none of the baggage

I enjoy them for various reasons

Cowherd pulls no punches and is realistic on news stories that show up

Stephen A Smith hated Dallas fans even more than I do and trolls them even harder when they lose

Acho has his show and I enjoy watching Joy Taylor mainly for when stories sound petty in the headlines and she is the queen of petty

Skip is the ultimate Dallas homer and I enjoy seeing him twist in his chair when Jerry says something crazy or Dallas loses and he has to explain what happened

I enjoy nfl network mainly for angry runs dude is always hyped up

It's always someone else's fault. The OC, the coach, the o-line (which wasn't bad), the receivers, whatever. Never the fault of the guy paid 150 million to suck.

I've thought that any coordinator should have 2 chances to be a HC if the first one is a failure due to poor draft classes and reaching for players that are less than happy to play for them or outright sabotage the team from within they should get a do over somewhere else if the 2nd team is just as bad dude should be coordinator for life

Which is why I think McDaniels should go back to patriots and wait for coach to leave so someone else can have that headache

McDaniels didn't bring Davante Adams there whom I assume is the unhappy one. The Raiders were only 3-5 and giving up on the season already. If anything, this makes the owner look bad to fire them already.

He did them one big favor getting rid of the QB they had for 9 years who still plays like a rookie. Unfortunately my team signed said QB to a ridiculous contract and we're now stuck with him.

The only reason you even have that Dallas thread is cause you couldn't stop posting about them in here, and people get tired of reading it. I think you have reverse karma'ed them into being a legit contender this year. Every other post from you is Dallas, Dallas, Dallas. You really do have a weird obsession with them for being a Chiefs fan.

Stroud would've been set up to fail if he went to Carolina too.

If you actually watch that team, Bryce Young is not the problem. Reich took a mobile QB and runs a dink and dunk pass offense with most of the passes under the line of scrimmage.

Dave Tepper asked for this though. He's the one that traded McCaffrey and DJ Moore, and chose to go all in for the #1 pick.

I want Derek Carr off my freaking team.

I have never seen a QB manage to get all 3 of their starting WRs injured in a span of 2 games. He throws hospital passes to guys, leading them into big hits.

Tom Brady recently said something about the mediocre play in the NFL, and he made a statement on QBs leading their receivers into big hits. He pretty much said that a QB that gets WRs injured don't belong in the NFL. He is 100% correct on that. Yesterday I watched Carr manage to get Shaheed and Olave injured on hospital balls. The Olave injury made me livid cause he was having a monster game before that.

I cannot believe the Saints looked at that shutout game vs the Raiders last year and decided to give this man $150 million. Carr is the WORST QB I have seen in a black and gold uniform in the past 20 years. Trevor Siemen was better than him.

I never want to hear again how it was all the Raiders fault why this guy sucks. He truly does suck! The diehard Raiders fans were screaming this 5-6 years ago. Not only is he bad, but he's a locker room cancer that destroys chemistry on a team. Carr lost the locker room when he had that hissy fit at Olave vs Jacksonville, and since then he's only managed to get guys injured.

They can fire Dennis Allen but he's left them a parting gift by handcuffing this organization to a bottom 3 QB.

People asked me all summer why I didn't buy into the Saints, and this is why. I watched enough Raiders games to know Carr is awful, and I seen enough of this coaching staff last year to know that an easy schedule wasn't going to be a gift to them. They were 5-5 with the easiest schedule in the league. Have a bye week, and come out flat against their arch rival. The Falcons just beat us playing like a Big 10 team. At this point, I'm emotionally checked out until they get rid of both Allen and Carr. This team isn't worth getting mad over.

This Christmas, we’re being gifted a potential Super Bowl preview.  The Ravens are playing the 49ers on “Monday Night Football”. These teams are the top seeds in the AFC and NFC, respectively.  The Ravens’ Lamar Jackson is 4-2 on “Monday Night Football”.  Updates to come.

The Ravens beat the 49ers, 33-19.

I am so excited for this game!  The Cowboys are hosting the Lions riding a 15-game home winning streak, the longest active streak in the NFL.  Updates to come.

UPDAYE:  This one hurts my heart.  It was a wild ending in the Lions vs. Cowboys game as Taylor Decker’s two-point conversion with 23 seconds left was negated by a penalty and the Lions’ third attempt failed in a 20-19 loss.

One can only hope.  The officiating has been questionable at best this season across the league.  But knowing the NFL, nothing will happen.

The refs didn't cost us that game.

Campbell going for it on 4th down several times and failing, is what lost it. Should've took the field goals and we wouldn't have needed a TD on the last drive. Better yet, why not trust the defense in overtime? They were playing well.

Blaming refs is for losers.

Half of the playoff picture is filled in and it is full of familiar faces.  There will be several reunions in the NFC playoffs.  The Cowboys and head coach Mike McCarthy will meet the Packers on Jan. 14 in Arlington, Texas.  Matthew Stafford and the Rams will visit Jared Goff and the Lions on Jan. 14 in Detroit.  The Buccaneers will host the Eagles on Jan. 15 in Tampa, Fla.  The 49ers have a first-round bye.  This comes after the Cowboys beat the Commanders, 38-10; the Packers beat the Bears, 17-9; the Rams beat the 49ers, 21-20; the Lions beat the Vikings, 30-20; the Buccaneers beat the Panthers, 9-0; and the Eagles lost to the Giants, 27-10.

UPDATE:  While the Ravens sit out the first round, the rest of the AFC will be extremely exciting.  The Dolphins will play the Chiefs on Saturday in Kansas City, Mo.  The Browns will play the Texans on Saturday in Houston.  The Steelers will play the Bills on Sunday in Orchard Park, N.Y.  This comes after the Bills beat the Dolphins, 21-14; and the Chiefs beat the Chargers, 13-12.

Too bad the Saints are keeping Dennis Allen so they will waste yet another year in mediocre purgatory.

All summer, all I heard was the endless hype about them having the easiest schedule ever and how Carr was supposed to be some massive upgrade. 9-8 and no playoffs with the worst salary cap situation in the league. This team is OK with being just good enough to hover around 8-9 wins and considers that a success.

I am glad they aren't in the playoffs. They were having to rely on GB or Seattle to lose, which means they would've got a ticket to Dallas to get skullfucked by the Cowboys.

Firing Belichick just cause the media constantly hammers him for a few bad years, was incredibly stupid.

This is like arguing the Steelers should've got rid of Chuck Knoll in the 80s when they fell on some hard years.

Just look at the Saints without Sean Payton. This could and potentially will easily blow up in Kraft's face.

I am quite unhappy with this game so far.  The Cowboys are down big, trailing the Packers, 27-7, at halftime as the Cowboys’ Dak Prescott has two interceptions with a pick-six by the Packers’ Darnell Savage.  Updates to come.

UPDATE:  Well, this stinks!  The Cowboys were routed by the Packers, 48-32.  The Packers’ Jordan Love had three touchdowns and Aaron Jones had three touchdowns.  The Cowboys allowed the most points in a playoff game in franchise history.  The Packers will play the 49ers on Saturday in Santa Clara, Calif.

Congrats to the fellow Michigan-Detroit fans. Fortune smiles upon you this year.

As for Dallas, I don't know what fans there are to troll. Their old timers (AKA the real fans who are all in their 40s and older now) seen this loss coming miles away. It's not like they don't have a long winding history of disappointments in the playoffs now for nearly 30 years. It is funny seeing them get blown out by a 9-8 team who came out hungry and wanted to prove themselves.

The Texans really impressed me. They were a 3-13 team last year, and have turned it around with a rookie QB who looks like the real deal, and won a playoff game. That makes for a successful season for sure. People wonder why I want the Saints to tank for a QB and rebuild, now I can just point to the Texans for my argument. CJ Stroud is the first rookie QB in a while I've been super impressed by.

The Niners looked very beatable in that game.

Hats off to the Packers. To be a 9 win team and put the #1 seed on the ropes like that. Jordan Love is the real deal and can improve next year.

Detroit could beat the Niners next week. I'm amazed that they have a superstar RB (McCaffrey) and hate running the ball. Even after he broke off a 40 yard TD run, they just kept passing. GB dropped a few INTs, including one that would've been an easy pick six early in the game. Shanahan still hasn't learned from his biggest mistakes with the 28-3 SB loss and the one to the Chiefs where they kept passing with a 10 point lead.

Harbaugh is also notorious for not building that 49ers team everyone gives him credit for. And they didn't win a SB either despite all the credit he gets. Check out his drafts during those years too and it becomes revealing why that team bombed so hard after he left.

I'd be more worried about Sean Payton turning Denver around. Harbaugh hasn't coached in nearly a decade and his last year at SF wasn't exactly great. The media treats him like he's Bill Walsh reincarnated, meanwhile Kyle Shanahan and his own brother have accomplished more than him in the NFL. I might as well also add how he needed a cheating scandal at Michigan to finally win something there.

I won't be surprised if the Chargers go 8-9 next year. He won't last there more than 4 years before burning out like he does everywhere he goes.

This story seems familiar.  The Chiefs beat the Ravens, 17-10, to go to the Super Bowl on Feb. 11 in Las Vegas.  The Chiefs’ Patrick Mahomes and Travis Kelce led the way.  The Ravens committed two fourth-quarter turnovers.  Updates to come.

UPDATE:  This feels so surreal, but I love it!  It feels like it’s really happening as the Lions dominated the first half and opened a 24-7 lead over the 49ers as they look to reach their first Super Bowl.

UPDATE 2:  Oh, come on!  The 49ers’ Brandon Aiyuk made an incredible grab after it ricocheted off a defender’s face mask to set up his touchdown catch.

UPDATE 3:  Nothing will tarnish this incredible season for me.  The 49ers reached the Super Bowl against the Chiefs on Feb. 11 in Las Vegas by overcoming the largest halftime deficit in conference championship history at 17 with a 34-31 win over the Lions.

UPDATE:  Somebody is truly in her NFL fan era.  Taylor Swift chugged her drink when she was shown on the Jumbotron during a break in first-half action in Super Bowl LVIII.

UPDATE 2:  Welcome to clutch time.  The Chiefs are trying to become the first repeat Super Bowl champs since the 2003-04 Patriots, leading, 13-10, entering the fourth quarter.

UPDATE 3:  Who wants more football?  The Chiefs’ Harrison Butker drilled a 29-yard field goal to send the game to overtime tied, 19-19.

UPDATE 4:  What a thriller tonight in Las Vegas!  Patrick Mahomes led the Chiefs on a drive completed with a touchdown pass to Mecole Hardman in overtime to win Super Bowl LVIII, 25-22, and repeat as champs.  Now, somebody play “(You Gotta) Fight for Your Right (To Party!)” by the Beastie Boys or “Swag Surfin” by Fast Life Yungstaz!
