Title: NFL 2024
Post by: InThe313 on February 12, 2024, 03:16:11 PM
Okay, ladies and gentlemen, in a few moments, Cade will be locking down the 2023 thread, so let’s get going with 2024.  As always, feel free to post news and observations from around the NFL here.  Just please do so in a respectful manner.  We want this to be a welcoming space for all and, as much as I hate continuing to say this, some people have left me no choice but for me to remind everybody DO NOT BE AN ASSHOLE!  Have fun!

Not a fan of the new kickoff rule change. It looked ridiculous and pretty much eliminates onside kicks.

I know this story involves college football, but the man is in the NFL, so I will talk about it here.  The NCAA announced a four-year show-cause order for Chargers head coach and former Michigan head coach Jim Harbaugh.

After his incredible season last year at Michigan, this breaks my heart.  According to Adam Schefter, Vikings rookie quarterback J. J. McCarthy is out for the season after surgery on his torn meniscus in his knee revealed a repair is needed.

You need to slow down, Cheetah.  The Dolphins’ Tyreek Hill’s agent told Adam Schefter that Hill was detained prior to the Jaguars game for a driving violation.  Hill will play today.  Updates to come.

UPDATE:  It feels so surreal to see this.  Video is out of Hill being handcuffed and taken to the ground by police outside of Hard Rock Stadium.

The Dolphins beat the Jaguars, 20-17.  (What a thriller today in Miami Gardens!)

UPDATE:  Now we can see the official video and make a real opinion of this story.  The Miami-Dade Police Department released the body camera footage of Sunday’s detainment of Hill.

In relation to Parkinson's disease I have an old family friend who has it and from what I understand with her being a retired nurse it is a genetic thing coming from the family tree I'll agree playing football didn't help for Favre but I would say he would have developed it anyway signs start to appear around age 50 it is unfortunate there is no cure but those are the facts

Dak Prescott connected with Jalen Tolbert for a five-yard touchdown with 20 seconds left to give the Cowboys the win over the Steelers.

Patriots safety Jabrill Peppers was arrested on assault and drug charges.

The Chiefs are 5-0 after beating the Saints on “Monday Night Football”.

UPDATE:  He freaking did it again!  The Jets’ Aaron Rodgers stunned the Bills with his fourth career Hail Mary touchdown to close out the first half.

REVENGE!  The Lions, who will play for the top seed against the Vikings on Sunday in Detroit, are battling the 49ers in an NFC Championship rematch on “Monday Night Football”.  Updates to come.

UPDATE:  One team has everything to play for, one has nothing to gain and both of them are still going for the jugular.  Tempers flared into a scuffle after the 49ers’ Jauan Jennings blocked the Lions’ Terrion Arnold through the end zone.

The Lions beat the 49ers, 40-34.

The final push for the playoffs starts now.  The Browns are playing the Ravens with AFC North at stake.  The Ravens can clinch the division with a win.  The Bengals will play the Steelers at 8 p.m.  Updates to come.

The Ravens beat the Browns, 35-10.

UPDATE:  Could this nightcap be any bigger?  The Bengals are taking on the Steelers in an AFC North showdown needing a win to keep their playoff hopes alive.

UPDATE 2:  This game is tight and that makes for good football.  The Bengals are holding on against the Steelers, 19-7, with 10:56 to play in a must-win game to stay in the playoff hunt.

UPDATE 3:  Will we see a spoiler?  The Steelers have the ball and trailing the Bengals, 19-17, with 2:00 left and can end their rivals’ season with a win.

The Bengals beat the Steelers, 19-17.

Now that we know who is going first, we must now ask who they are going to take.  The Titans landed the No. 1 pick in the 2025 NFL draft followed by the Browns, Giants and Patriots.  This comes as the Titans lost to the Texans, 23-14; the Giants lost to the Eagles, 20-13; and the Patriots beat the Bills, 23-16.

UPDATE:  Remember when Black Monday was actually on Monday?  According to Adam Schefter, the Patriots fired head coach Jerod Mayo after Mayo’s first year with the team.

What did I just watch?  The Broncos’ Bo Nix threw to Adam Trautman in the back of the end zone, but the ball ricocheted off Trautman and was tipped by the Chiefs’ Nazeeh Johnson and Keith Taylor before being caught by the Broncos’ Devaughn Vele for a touchdown.  Updates to come.

The Broncos beat the Chiefs, 38-0, to advance to play the Bills on Jan. 12 in Orchard Park, N.Y.

I am getting happier with this team each week!  Jahmyr Gibbs powered the Lions with four touchdowns to a 31-9 win over the Vikings to secure the No. 1 seed and a first-round bye in the NFC.  The Lions will play the lowest remaining seed on Jan. 18 or 19 in Detroit while the Vikings will play the Rams on Jan. 13 in Inglewood, Calif.

UPDATE:  Everybody grab a seat!  The Texans have the ball with 11:43 to play and trailing the Chiefs, 20-12, with an AFC title game berth at stake.

UPDATE 2:  This sounds awfully familiar.  The Chiefs beat the Texans, 23-14, to advance to their seventh straight AFC Championship Game on Jan. 26 in Kansas City, Mo.

I think there should be a law in the CBA that all coaching hires be done AFTER the super bowl so whoever is getting hired from anywhere don't sabotage the team trying to win but that's me

The Lions are eliminated from the playoffs and Chicago didn't even make it, so how does this sabotage them?

I really thought Detroit had a legit shot at making the super bowl I've heard far too many former players talk about when they played the coaching staff would do the pregame speech only to inform the team he was taking the job elsewhere because it was a great chance for them so Johnson going to Chicago didn't surprise me I just wish the big game would be over before the hiring cycle starts so players can focus on winning

KC's old OC was up for coaching spots and left yet once he was fired nobody said a word about can KC win without him we are just short of 3 in a row to prove we can

Still don't answer how this "sabotaged" Detroit.

I'm not shocked the Lions lost. All 3 NFC North teams were beat thoroughly in their first game of the playoffs. The Lions defense was thoroughly exposed in that Buffalo game.

Turn the ball over 5 times, you lose.

Give up 40+ points, you lose.

Jared Goff is not a playoff QB. The Rams knew that when they off loaded him to the Lions.

It would be nice to give credit to other teams when they knock out a team in an upset as underdogs.

Everyone who watched Jayden Daniels play at LSU knew he was going to be special in the NFL. I don't think we realized he was going to be this good right out the gate.

I'm rooting for Washington the rest of the way, but I'd be happy to see Philly win too after the season Barkley has put up. He needs just 146 yards to break the all time playoff rushing record. I argued that he should've got MVP this year. It'll probably go to a QB though since that's how the modern NFL is.

Fair enough I just wanted to see Detroit in the super bowl

I was looking at keeping the hiring cycle from happening till after the super bowl so every team had a shot at the new coach they wanted and not fight over the scraps left behind for teams that will only have them for a year before they end up in this situation next year all over again when things don't work and the team is stuck paying out contract money for guys who aren't even there

I'm liking a number of the picks yet my version is a bit different since I go with players on certain teams getting drafted to the reverse of where they are

example

Warm weather players going to cold weather teams  (Green Bay, Seattle, Boston, Buffalo, Pittsburgh)

Southern players (Alabama, Georgia, South Carolina, Auburn and such) going to teams with expensive zip codes like Rams, Giants, Jets, 49ers, Miami

Northern players (Michigan, Notre Dame, Washington, Boston College and such) going to southern teams like Atlanta, Tampa, Dallas, Carolina

Sometimes I'm way off on a few but I like watching to see who goes where in the event they have to do the walk of shame and smile for the cameras anyway knowing they are stuck somewhere for the next 4-5 years hoping they can last that long
