It’s that time of the year as we thaw out of the snow and welcome baseball back into our world. After a crazy spring training, it feels like anything can happen. The first pitch of the exhibition season is today in Peoria, Ariz. As usual, leave news and notes here and don’t forget to be respectful to others. Failure to do so will not be tolerated. This man is going to jail! The Dodgers fired Shohei Ohtani’s interpreter amid allegations of “massive theft” of the star’s funds to cover gambling debts. This comes as the Dodgers beat the Padres, 5-2.

I can only hope that this is the truth. The Dodgers’ Shohei Ohtani addressed the gambling saga, saying he never bet on sports and that former Dodgers interpreter Ippei Mizuhara was “stealing money from me.” Updates to come.

Dodgers co-owner Magic Johnson voiced his displeasure at Iowa’s Women’s Final Four win over UConn and a controversial late foul call, as did Lakers small forward LeBron James and Travis Scott. This comes as the Dodgers lost to the Cubs, 9-7.

Oh, Lord, that was a terrible call! An umpire said, “I don’t care who said it. You’re gone,” as he mistook a fan’s heckling for Yankees manager Aaron Boone and ejected Boone in a 2-0 loss to the Athletics.

Will everybody in Cream City calm down?! It was a malice in Milwaukee as multiple punches were thrown between the Rays and Brewers before the benches emptied in an 8-2 Brewers win.

When I said this is starting to look like a trashy reality show, I didn’t mean to take it literally. UPDATE: This guy has the right combination of power and speed. The Guardians took Oregon State second baseman Travis Bazzana with the top pick of the MLB draft. He is the first second baseman to go No. 1 overall in draft history.

The fact my favorite team clinched a playoff berth while sending my least favorite team into baseball infamy makes this post feel so satisfying. The White Sox broke the modern MLB record with their 121st loss of the season, losing to the Tigers, 4-1.

The MLB playoff bracket was set as the Braves will play the Padres beginning on Tuesday in San Diego and the Mets will play the Brewers beginning in Milwaukee on Tuesday after the Braves beat the Mets, 3-0, in Game 2 of a wild doubleheader. I am getting bad flashbacks of the news footage of Katrina ripping through New Orleans. Hurricane Milton completely shredded the roof of the Rays’ ballpark, Tropicana Field, a staging area for first responders.

Playoff baseball is so much fun. The Yankees’ Aaron Judge and Giancarlo Stanton stunned Cleveland by blasting back-to-back home runs in the eighth inning to take a 4-3 lead over the Guardians. Updates to come.

UPDATE: What a thriller today in Cleveland! The Yankees fell, 7-5, after the Guardians’ David Fry slugged a massive home run in the 10th inning featuring a massive bat flip.

This should feel commonplace, but it’s been a while. Juan Soto sent the Yankees to the Fall Classic for the first time in 14 years, eliminating the Guardians, 5-2, in 10 innings with one giant swing of the bat.

UPDATE: It’s like watching the Bad News Bears in the field. Judge’s routine drop was one of three Yankees defensive blunders in a disastrous fifth as the Dodgers pulled even.
UPDATE 2: Last call! Walker Buehler, who won Game 3 on Monday, is on the mound with the Dodgers three outs away from a title and leading the Yankees, 7-6.
UPDATE 3: Somebody play “I Love L.A.” by Randy Newman or “Kernkraft 400” by Zombie Nation! The Dodgers won their eighth World Series by stunning the Yankees in Game 5, 7-6, with the largest comeback to clinch a World Series all time.
