It’s that time of the year as we thaw out of the snow and welcome baseball back into our world.  After a crazy spring training, it feels like anything can happen.  The first pitch of the exhibition season is today in Peoria, Ariz.  As usual, leave news and notes here and don’t forget to be respectful to others.  Failure to do so will not be tolerated.  Have fun and play ball.

We’re about to open the season with one game in the Seoul Series of the MLB World Tour.  The rest of today’s action will be a part of spring training.  Here’s today’s opening day schedule.

This man is going to jail!  The Dodgers fired Shohei Ohtani’s interpreter amid allegations of “massive theft” of the star’s funds to cover gambling debts.  This comes as the Dodgers beat the Padres, 5-2.

I can only hope that this is the truth.  The Dodgers’ Shohei Ohtani addressed the gambling saga, saying he never bet on sports and that former Dodgers interpreter Ippei Mizuhara was “stealing money from me.”  Updates to come.

The Dodgers lost to the Angels, 6-0.

That did not take long.  The Astros’ Ronel Blanco threw a no-hitter in his eighth career start, a 10-0 win over the Blue Jays.  It was the 17th no-no in franchise history.

Some bad calls transcend their own sport and get the attention of people in other sports.  Dodgers co-owner Magic Johnson voiced his displeasure at Iowa’s Women’s Final Four win over UConn and a controversial late foul call, as did Lakers small forward LeBron James and Travis Scott.  This comes as the Dodgers lost to the Cubs, 9-7.

Oh, Lord, that was a terrible call!  An umpire said, “I don’t care who said it.  You’re gone,” as he mistook a fan’s heckling for Yankees manager Aaron Boone and ejected Boone in a 2-0 loss to the Athletics.

Will everybody in Cream City calm down?!  It was a malice in Milwaukee as multiple punches were thrown between the Rays and Brewers before the benches emptied in an 8-2 Brewers win.

When I said this is starting to look like a trashy reality show, I didn’t mean to take it literally.  According to Tisha Thompson, the Dodgers’ Shohei Ohtani’s former interpreter wired money Ryan Boyajian of “The Real Housewives of Orange County” to pay his gambling debts.  This comes as the Dodgers beat the Marlins, 3-1.

I feel awful for all involved, especially his kid.  According to USA Today, former Top 10 pick in the MLB draft and 2000 Olympic gold medalist Sean Burroughs died at 43 while coaching his son’s Little League team.

I hate when bad things happen to good players.  The Braves’ reigning NL MVP Ronald Acuña Jr. is out for the rest of the season with a torn ACL after an 8-1 win over the Pirates.

Finally, the nightmare is ending!  According to USA Today, MLB umpire Ángel Hernández is retiring after a controversial 33-year career.

If this is true, get him out of the game!  According to The Wall Street Journal, the Padres’ Tucupita Marcano is facing a potential lifetime ban for betting on baseball.  Updates to come.

What’s with all the gambling?  According to The Athletic, MLB punished umpire Pat Hoberg for violating gambling rules.  Hoberg denied betting on baseball and plans to appeal.

It breaks my heart to say this.  Giants special advisor Willie Mays, a Baseball Hall of Famer and two-time MVP, died at 93.  Updates to come.
