Somebody will make history in a few moments.  The Heisman Trophy ceremony is on right now.  Who will take home college football’s most prestigious individual honor?  Updates to come.

Indiana quarterback Fernando Mendoza won the Heisman Trophy.

Finally, the road to the national title truly begins.  The College Football Playoff is starting now as No. 9 Alabama plays No. 8 Oklahoma.  The winner will play Indiana on Jan. 1, 2026 in Pasadena, Calif.  Updates to come.

UPDATE:  Does Oklahoma have a rally in them?  Alabama scored 27 unanswered points to take a 27-17 lead over the Sooners entering the fourth quarter.

UPDATE 2:  Everything is coming up Roses.  Alabama upset Oklahoma, 34-24, in the first round of the CFP and will face Indiana in the quarterfinals.

This is a big day of football.  No. 10 Miami (Fla.) is playing No. 7 Texas A&M in the first round of the College Football Playoff.  The winner will play Ohio State on Dec. 31 in Arlington, Texas.  For some entertainment, one of the alternative broadcasts includes Pat McAfee.  Updates to come.

UPDATE:  For everybody who wrote off the ACC after Duke won the conference title, myself included, think again.  Miami (Fla.) secured a late interception to upset Texas A&M, 10-3.  The Hurricanes will play Ohio State in the CFP quarterfinals.

That was easy.  No. 6 Ole Miss dominated No. 11 Tulane, 41-10, in the College Football Playoff first round and will face SEC rival Georgia in the quarterfinals at the Sugar Bowl on Jan. 1, 2026 in New Orleans.

The Group of Five hardly put up a fight.  No. 5 Oregon rolled to a 51-34 win over No. 12 James Madison in the College Football Playoff first round and will face Texas Tech in the quarterfinals in the Orange Bowl on Jan. 1, 2026 in Miami Gardens, Fla.

I like this deal a lot.  According to Pete Thanel and Dan Wetzel, Utah head coach Kyle Whittingham agreed to a five-year deal for the same position at Michigan.

It is time to close out 2025 with a battle of two powerhouses.  No. 10 Miami (Fla.) is playing No. 2 Ohio State in the Cotton Bowl Classic in a College Football Playoff quarterfinal.  Updates to come.

UPDATE:  This what I love to see.  Miami (Fla.)’s Keionte Scott read Ohio State’s Julian Sayin like a book for a pick-six to hand the Buckeyes their largest deficit since 2022.

UPDATE 2:  The game is not over yet.  Ohio State cut Miami (Fla.)’s lead to 17-14 early in the fourth quarter of the CFP quarterfinals.

UPDATE 3:  This makes my day feel better.  Defending CFP champion Ohio State was upset by Miami (Fla.), 24-14, as the Hurricanes held off the Buckeyes’ rally to become the first double-digit seed to reach the semifinals on Jan. 8, 2026 in Glendale, Ariz.

This is an exciting way to open 2026.  No. 5 Oregon is playing No. 4 Texas Tech in the Orange Bowl in a College Football Playoff quarterfinal.  Updates to come.

UPDATE:  I was not expecting such a high-powered offense to be silenced.  Oregon rolled to the semifinals by upsetting Texas Tech, 23-0, for the first College Football Playoff shutout since 2016.

It is finally time for the Granddaddy of Them All.  No. 9 Alabama is playing No. 1 Indiana in the Rose Bowl.  Updates to come.

UPDATE:  I have a couple of cousins who are very happy right now.  Indiana handed Alabama their largest bowl loss since 1998 with a 38-3 Rose Bowl rout.  The Hoosiers will play Big Ten rival Oregon in the College Football Playoff semis on Jan. 9 in Atlanta.

How about one final game for the day?  No. 6 Ole Miss is playing No. 3 Georgia in the Sugar Bowl in a College Football Playoff quarterfinal.  The winner will play Miami (Fla.) on Jan. 8 in Glendale, Ariz.  Updates to come.

UPDATE:  The Sugar Bowl is heating up.  Georgia swung the momentum with a bold fake punt, but Ole Miss has a chance to take the lead.  The game is entering the fourth quarter.

UPDATE 2:  Wow, what a game!  Ole Miss upset Georgia, 39-34, as the Rebels booted a last-second field goal to prevail in a Sugar Bowl thriller and book the final spot in the CFP semifinals.

Both these teams are one win away from an intriguing storyline.  No. 10 Miami (Fla.) is playing No. 6 Ole Miss in Fiesta Bowl in a College Football Playoff semifinal.  Updates to come.

UPDATE:  What a game this has become!  The CFP semi is heating up as Ole Miss is chipping away at Miami (Fla.)’s 17-16 lead.  The fourth quarter is starting now.

UPDATE 2:  The U is in trouble.  Miami (Fla.) has the ball with 3:13 left after Ole Miss took a 27-24 lead.

UPDATE 3:  The team nobody thought should be in the Playoff is about to play for the title in their home stadium.  Miami (Fla.) booked a trip to the College Football Playoff National Championship on Jan. 19 in Miami Gardens, Fla., after a touchdown with 18 seconds left downed Ole Miss in a 31-27 upset in the Fiesta Bowl.

Which team will get the chance to keep the national championship in the Big Ten?  No. 5 Oregon is playing No. 1 Indiana in the Peach Bowl in a College Football Playoff semifinal.  Updates to come.

UPDATE:  That is a fast start to the game.  Indiana’s D’Angelo Ponds’ pick-six on the first play gave the Hoosiers a 7-0 lead.

UPDATE 2:  Wow, that was easy.  Fernando Mendoza threw for five touchdowns as Indiana booked spot in the title game against Miami (Fla.) on Jan. 19 in Miami Gardens, Fla., with a 56-22 win over Oregon.

The season comes down to this.  No. 10 Miami (Fla.) is playing No. 1 Indiana in the College Football Playoff National Championship in Miami Gardens, Fla.  Updates to come.

UPDATE:  I have to question the qualifications of the officials.  Indiana’s Fernando Mendoza was bloodied after taking a hit to the head, but the Miami (Fla.) avoided ejection for targeting.

UPDATE 2:  This has been a defensive masterpiece so far.  Miami (Fla.) was shut out at halftime with Indiana allowing the fewest yards in the first half of a CFP title game to seize a 10-0 lead.

UPDATE 3:  Talk about exploring the stadium.  Miami (Fla.)’s Mark Fletcher Jr. carved up the Indiana defense for the second-longest rushing touchdown in BCS/CFP title game history.

UPDATE 4:  The next 15 minutes are going to be exciting.  Miami (Fla.) answered Indiana’s blocked punt touchdown to cut the deficit to 17-14.  The fourth quarter is starting now.

UPDATE 5:  That’s why he won the Heisman.  Mendoza put his body on the line to score a clutch touchdown on a bold fourth-down call.

UPDATE 6:  This is where you get your NIL money.  Miami (Fla.) needs a stop with two minutes left against Indiana to keep their national championship hopes alive.

UPDATE 7:  Somebody play “Indiana, Our Indiana”!  Indiana topped Miami (Fla.), 27-21, to win their first national championship.  The Hoosiers are the second team in major college football history to finish 16-0.

UPDATE 8:  Time to look into the future.  ESPN put out its Way-Too-Early Top 25.  Can anybody top Indiana?  Miami (Fla.) is outside the Top 5.  Alabama barely made the cut.  Here are the full rankings.

1.  Indiana
2.  Texas
3.  Notre Dame
4.  Georgia
5.  Oregon
6.  Ohio State
7.  Texas Tech
8.  Miami (Fla.)
9.  Ole Miss
10.  Texas A&M
11.  BYU
12.  Oklahoma
13.  USC
14.  Louisville
15.  LSU
16.  Iowa
17.  SMU
18.  Michigan
19.  Washington
20.  TCU
21.  Alabama
22.  Penn State
23.  Arizona State
24.  Tennessee
25.  Utah

UPDATE 9:  Some people do not know how to lose.  Fletcher took a swing at Indiana’s Tyrique Tucker following the CFP national championship game.
