College football 2025
« on: August 23, 2025, 06:06:03 AM »
My favorite sports season is back!  After an exciting year last season, it’s time for things to start anew.  Heck, there’s even two new FBS schools (Delaware, Missouri State, welcome to the party).  The season kicks off in about six hours in… Dublin?!  Who books these games?  Anyway, please remember to be polite as you post news and opinions here.  Now, here’s your Opening Day schedule.

Iowa State Cyclones at Kansas State Wildcats today at 12 p.m.
Idaho State Bengals at UNLV Rebels today at 4 p.m.
Fresno State Bulldogs at Kansas Jayhawks tonight at 6:30 p.m.
Sam Houston Bearkats at Jacksonville State Gamecocks tonight at 7 p.m.
Stanford Cardinal at Hawaii Rainbow Warriors tonight at 7:30 p.m.

Saturdays in the fall will feel a little less fun now.  Lee Corso is making his final “College GameDay” appearance in Columbus, Ohio, ahead of the No. 1 Texas vs. No. 3 Ohio State game.  Updates to come.

UPDATE:  I love fun little moments like this.  An Ohio State student nailed his first field goal attempt for $250,000 on “College GameDay”.

UPDATE 2:  And thus, an era of greatness closes.  Corso chose Ohio State over Texas for his final headgear pick on “College GameDay”.

Ohio State upset Texas, 14-7.

Is there turmoil in the South?  No. 8 Alabama was upset by Florida State, 31-17, for the Crimson Tide’s first season-opening loss since 2001.

This is one of those matchups I waited all offseason to see.  A rivalry is being renewed as No. 10 Miami (Fla.) is hosting No. 6 Notre Dame in their first meeting since 2017.

UPDATE:  Is it to early crown the catch of the year?  Miami’s CJ Daniels turned a sure interception into a jaw-dropping touchdown with an incredible leaping, one-handed effort.

Miami upset Notre Dame, 27-24.

Tobacco Road has officially been graced by the G.O.A.T.  The “Chapel Bill” era is starting now as head coach Bill Belichick and North Carolina are hosting TCU.  Updates to come.

UPDATE:  That is not how anybody wants their first impression to look.  It was a rough night at “Chapel Bill” as Belichick and North Carolina gave up 48 points in a 48-14 loss to TCU, the most allowed in a season opener in school history.

I am sure the school will be happy to pay the fine.  Mississippi State fans rushed the field and tore down the goalposts after a long touchdown in the final seconds stunned No. 12 Arizona State in a 24-20 upset.

This game has been worth the hype.  No. 15 Tennessee took a 35-30 lead against No. 6 Georgia with under 12 minutes remaining in the fourth.  Updates to come.

UPDATE:  This game is getting better and better by the minute.  Georgia pulled even at 38-38 against Tennessee with under three minutes remaining.

UPDATE 2:  What a thriller today in Knoxville!  Georgia defeated Tennessee, 44-41, in overtime for their ninth straight win over the Volunteers.
